Choosing a Venue for Your Christening Reception

Christening ReceptionA Greek Orthodox Christening can be as simple or as complicated as you desire. In its purest state, the ceremony takes place at the church in front of a select group of people. Nothing else needs to be done at this point. However, it is fun to carry the event a bit further and hold a reception in honor of the child and to share with your friends and family the joyous occasion.

Do you have a guest list already in place? Do you already know when the ceremony will occur? If so, the next step is to actually select a venue to hold the event. The one you choose will depend on a variety of factors including the size of your guest list, the time of year, and your budget.

Your House

One of the simplest places to have the reception is at someone’s house. This is a good choice if you are on a budget and the guest list is on the smaller size (unless you have a large home). If the guest list is large, however, this may not be a good fit. For example, it can be difficult finding places for people to sit. You can always hold it outside, but this won’t work in cooler climates and at certain times of the year.

Also, having the reception at your house means that someone has to cook and clean. If you decide to hire a catering company, this may defeat the purpose of having it at your home to save money because they can be expensive. Also, getting the house company ready can also be time consuming.

At a Restaurant

Another possibility is that you can have the reception at a restaurant. There are two choices for this. First, you can reserve a few tables if the guest list is small. Second, some restaurants also have a room for larger parties that you can rent out.

Holding it at a restaurant is a good choice if the guest list is fairly small. This also saves you the hassle of having it at your house because you won’t be responsible for preparing the meal and doing the housekeeping. You can choose to hold the reception at a Greek restaurant or simply your favorite restaurant in the area. Overall, this option is a good choice for people on a budget.

Renting a Function Room

If your guest list is fairly large and you have a budget adequate enough to afford it, you can rent out a function hall. Your church may have a room to rent, for example. Some function halls require that you provide the catering. Others have a full staff and can provide the meal and service themselves.

You may choose to further celebrate your child’s baptism by having a reception. You can either do this at your home, at a restaurant, or in a function hall. The option you choose will depend on your guest list and the size of your budget. This is a happy occasion and your guests will appreciate you no matter which option you select.
