National Day Celebration: “Lectures in Modern Philhellenism”

March 26, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

To mark the National Day of Greece, the Consul General of Greece in Boston and the Boston University Philhellenes are proud to present the second annual “Lectures in Modern Philhellenism.”

Are the United States and other Western nations who lay claim to the political and cultural heritage of ancient Greece living up to the standards set by the ancient Hellenes?  Join us for a debate and discussion on this controversial question.

Speakers:

Dr. Nicolas Prevelakis (Harvard University, Center for Hellenic Studies)  Professor Ioannis Evrigenis (Tufts University)  Professor Stephanie Nelson (Boston University)  Professor Loren J. Samons (Boston University).

The 2015 Lectures in Modern Philhellenism are dedicated to the memory of Dr. Samuel Gridley Howe of Boston, Massachusetts (1801-1876), philanthropist and true philhellene, who served in the Greek War for Independence (1824-1827).

Event is FREE and open to the public.  Reception to follow.

7:00 p.m., March 26, 2015, Photonics Building room 206, 8 St. Mary’s Street, Boston, MA 02215
