Recipe for Greek Style Apple Preserves

Written by in , Comments Off on Recipe for Greek Style Apple Preserves

It is a fairly common practice in Greece to preserve fruit once it has been picked. This originated centuries ago before refrigeration was common, but the these foods are now an integral part of Greek cuisine. This recipe uses freshly picked apples.

Greek Style Apple Preserves Recipe Ingredients:

  • 6 cups sliced apples
  • 4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup Greek honey
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

How to Prepare Apple Preserves:

Place the apples, sugar, honey, water, and lemon juice into a large saucepan and set the heat to medium. Leave the pan uncovered.

Stir constantly until the sugar dissolves. Continue to heat until the mixture bubbles. Reduce the heat to low and continue to cook until the mixture thickens. This should take about twenty minutes.

Turn the heat off and pour the mixture into clean, sterilized jars. Cover and store the jars in the refrigerator for about two weeks.
