If you have access to fresh sardines, this dish is a real treat. This is a popular recipe that is prepared throughout Greece, especially in the coastal areas.


Greek Baked Fresh Sardines (Sardeles tou Fournou) Recipe Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds fresh sardines, cleaned and split
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1 recipe ladolemono
  • 2 tablespoons toasted breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons fresh, chopped parsley

How to Bake Fresh Greek Sardines:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.

Sprinkle each sardine with salt and pepper.

Prepare the ladolemono according to the recipe instructions. Brush each sardine on both sides and in the middle.

Sprinkle each of the sardines with bread crumbs.

Arrange the sardines on the baking sheet and place in the center of the oven. Bake until cooked all the way through. This should take about 30 minutes.

Sprinkle sardines with parsley just before serving.
