Recipe for Greek Caramel Custard

Written by in , Comments Off on Recipe for Greek Caramel Custard

This is a popular sweet that is served all over Greece. The ingredients list is very simple and it doesn’t take long to put this together.

Greek Caramel Custard (Krema Karamela) Recipe Ingredients:

  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 7 eggs, gently beaten

Instructions on How to Bake Caramel Custard:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Pour the milk into a saucepan and set the heat on medium. Heat until the milk is scaled, which means that you will cook it until it’s just about to boil – but don’t let it boil.

Remove from the heat and stir in the sugar with a wooden spoon. Keep stirring until the sugar dissolves. Stir in the vanilla and salt and then slowly whisk in the eggs. Keep stirring until the eggs thicken.

Spray a casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray. Pour the mixture into the dish. Fill a larger pan about an inch high with water and place in the center of the oven. Place the casserole dish inside the pan. Bake for 40 – 45 minutes or until the custard is set.
