Recipe for Halvas Tou Fournou – Baked Halva
- 1/2 cup flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups semolina
- 1 cup finely chopped nuts
- 3/4 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 eggs
- 3/4 cup milk
- Grated lemon rind
- 3 cups sugar
- 3 cups water
- 3 whole cloves
- Pinch Cinnamon
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt. Stir in the semolina and nuts using a wooden spoon.
Cream the butter and sugar using an electric mixer set on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time and beat until well combined.
Add milk alternately with dry ingredients. Stir after each addition until just smooth.
Add a little grated lemon rind and put in a greased square pan. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes. Remove from the oven and set aside.
For the syrup:
Boil the sugar, water, cloves and cinnamon for about 5 minutes and as soon as Halva comes out of the oven pour the syrup on top. Cool and cut into square pieces. If desired, it can be served with whipped cream.
