This recipe is commonly prepared throughout Greece, especially when chestnuts are in season. If you can’t find lamb stew meat, feel free to prepare this dish with beef, instead.

Greek Style Lamb Stew with Chestnuts Recipe Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons Greek olive oil, divided
  • 2 pounds lamb stew meat, cut into 2-inch cubes
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 cup meat stock
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 2 pounds chestnuts, scored, baked, and peeled
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar

How to Make Greek Lamb Stew With Chestnuts:

Pour 2 tablespoons of the olive oil into a stew pan and set the neat to medium. Add the lamb and cook until browned on all sides. Remove the meat from the pan and add the onion. Saute the onions until they’re soft. This should take about 5 minutes. Stir the meat back into the pan and sprinkle the mixture with flour. Saute for about 1 minute. Stir in the stock, salt, pepper, and chestnuts. Cover the pan and bring the mixture to a boil. Set the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes. Stir in the sugar just before serving.
