Ground meat is regularly used in Greek cuisine in a variety dishes. Use any ground meat you desire for this recipe, such as beef, lamb, pork, or a combination. Note that if you use bamboo skewers, you’ll want to soak them for at least two hours before preparing this recipe.

Greek Style Meatball (Kefteda) Souvlaki Recipe Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground lamb, beef, or pork or a combination
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chopped mint
  • 1 teaspoon dried Greek mint
  • 1 large egg
  • Salt, to tast
  • Pepper, to tast
  • Lemon juice (optional)

How to Prepare Greek Style Meatball Souvlaki:

Preheat the grill to 350 degrees Fahrenheit or light the coals and get them ready.

Add the ground meat, onion, mint, oregano, egg, salt, and pepper.

Stir with a wooden spoon or mix with your hands. Form the meat into balls about 1 1/2 inches in diameter.

Pierce each meatball through a thin skewer, such as a bamboo skewer.

You should be able to fit 3-4 meatballs per skewer. You’ll want to leave about an inch or so of space on both ends.

Place each skewer on the grill. Cook for about 2-3 minutes.

Rotate 1/4 of a tea. Cook for about 2-3 minutes. Repeat two more times until the meatballs are cooked all the way through.

Remove from the grill and place on a serving platter. Squeeze lemon juice over the skewers just before serving (optional). This is also optional but you could also place an onion peace in between meatballs.
