Recipe for Greek Style Melon Spoon Sweet

Written by in , Comments Off on Recipe for Greek Style Melon Spoon Sweet

Spoon sweets are an easy way to preserve the fruit harvest in Greece when everything becomes ripe and flavorful. Use the freshest and sweetest melons you can find, such as cantaloupe.

Greek Melon Spoon Sweet (Peponi Glyko) Recipe Ingredients:

  • 4 cups cubed melon of choice
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup Greek honey

Instructions on How to Prepare Melon Spoon Sweet:

Add the cantaloupe to a large bowl and sprinkle in the lemon juice and sugar.

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it sit in the refrigerator or on the counter for several hours, or overnight.

Transfer the contents of the bowl to a large saucepan. Drizzle in the honey.

Set the heat to medium and let the mixture cook down. Mash it with a fork, wooden spoon, or potato masher if you want during the cooking process to help the melon break down.

After the mixture is softened and is as thick as you want, remove from the heat and transfer to sterilized glass jars.
