Written by in , Comments Off on Recipe for Greek Style Mushrooms

Versions of this dish can be found all over Greece. The types of mushrooms differ depending on what can be safely foraged or found in the markets. The spices differ somewhat, as well, but this version is one of the more popular.

Greek Style Mushrooms (Manitaria Horiatika) Recipe Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons Greek olive oil
  • 1 cinnamon stick, halved
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tablespoon coriander seeds, crushed
  • 1 pound mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups white wine
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons chopped, fresh parsley

Directions to Make Greek Mushrooms:

Drizzle the olive oil into a deep skillet and set the heat to medium. Add the cinnamon stick halves, bay leaves, and coriander seeds and cook for one minute. Add the mushrooms and raise the heat to medium-high. Saute until the mushrooms are soft, which should take about five minutes. Add the white wine and raise the heat to high. Saute, stirring constantly, until most of the liquid is absorbed. Season with salt and pepper. Garnish with the fresh parsley just before serving.
