Recipe for Greek Style Peppered Dried Figs

Written by in , Comments Off on Recipe for Greek Style Peppered Dried Figs

This spicy dish is often served as an appetizer, or meze, in Greece. The spicy notes from the black pepper contrast nicely with the natural sweetness of dried figs. It’s best if you use the moistest dried figs that you can find.

Greek Style Peppered Dried Figs (Sika Piperata) Recipe Ingredients:

  • 24 dried figs, stems trimmed
  • 1/3 cup cracked black peppercorns
  • 18 dried bay leaves

How to Prepare Peppered Dried Figs:

Roll each figs in the black peppercorns so that they’re coated. Line a clean glass jar with a few of bay leaves. Add figs in a single layer. Place more bay leaves on top of the figs, and then another layer of figs. Repeat until all the figs are done. Cover the top of the last layer of figs with plastic wrap and seal the jar tightly. Store in a cool, dry place for a month before serving to let the flavors meld together.
