Granita is a traditional Greek drink made from fresh pomegranates. It is is sweet and is often served after a meal in place of dessert. Make sure you find food grade rosewater or orange flower water if you decide to use it.

Greek Style Pomegranate Drink (Granita) Recipe Ingredients:

  • 4 ripe pomegranates
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoons lemon juice
  • Rosewater or orange flower water, optional
  • Pomegranate seeds, to garnish (if serving cold)

Instructions on How to Make Pomegranate Drink:

Peel the pomegranates and remove the seeds. Place in a blender or food processor and pulse until a mash is formed. Place the mash in a fine colander and strain the juice through. You can also juice the pomegranate seeds instead if you have a juicer.

Place the juice in a saucepan and stir in the sugar. Set the heat to medium and cook until the sugar dissolves. Stir in the lemon juice. If serving hot, continue to warm the juice until heated all the way through. If not, immediately power the juice over ice, add a few drops of rosewater or orange flower water (optional), and sprinkle with pomegranate seeds.

If serving hot, pour the juice into mugs and finish it with a few drops of rosewater or orange flower water.
