Written by in , Comments Off on Recipe for Greek Style Savory Red Mullet Fish

Although this recipe uses red mullet, which is common in Greece, you can replace it with any fresh white fish that you can find, such as cod.

Greek Style Savory Red Mullet Fish Recipe Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Greek olive oil, divided
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 3 pounds red mullet or other fish, cleaned
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1 shallot, chopped
  • 2 anchovy filets, finely chopped
  • 4 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon dried Greek oregano

Instructions on How to Make Greek Style Savory Red Mullet Fish:

Pour all about two tablespoons of the oil into a deep skillet and set the heat to medium.

Sprinkle the fish with salt and pepper.

Add the fish, skin side down, to the skillet and leave in place until the fish is cooked all the way through.

Cook for 2-3 minutes on one side, and then flip it over and cook it for 2-3 minutes more.

Remove the fish from the pan and let it drain on paper towels.

Drain off the oil in the pan and add the remaining two tablespoons of oil to the skillet.

Saute the garlic and shallot together until the shallots are soft. This should take about two minutes.

Stir in the anchovy and cook for another minute. Stir in the tomatoes, cinnamon, and oregano. Let the tomatoes cook for about 5 minutes.

Set the heat to low and cook the tomatoes for another 5 minutes.

Place the fish in a serving dish and pour the tomato mixture over just before serving.
