Best Beaches Near Chora on Mykonos

Written by in , Comments Off on Best Beaches Near Chora on Mykonos

Mykonos is one of those islands where tourists flock to it each year. In particular, it is known for its beautiful beaches and many of these are close to Chora, the capital of the island.  Many of them are located within walking distance or a short bus ride from Mykonos Chora and they all offer different experiences including swimming, water sports, and parties. Whether you are looking for a secluded beach, a family friendly excursion or a place to dance and listen to music, these beaches are worth a visit. Here’s more information:

Megali Ammos

An easily accessible beach within walking distance, Megali Ammos is located 1 km from Chora (.6 miles). It is often not as busy as the other beaches due to its proximity to a main road and its small size compared to other beaches. It can also boast heavy winds that make umbrellas impossible to use, but is perfect for a secluded getaway. There are a few hotels and a tavern close to the sea shore.

Agios Stefanos

While also a small beach, Agios Stefanos is a beautiful cove protected from high winds and is perfect for swimming. Located 3 km from Chora (1.8 miles), it is easily accessible by bus or on foot. Known for its clear blue waters, restaurants, and water sports, it is a popular family beach during tourist season.

Korfos

Closely located by 3 km (1.8 miles) to the Mykonos capital, Korfos is a popular beach for families and individuals interested in water sports. The location caters to high winds and waves that are perfect for windsurfing, and taverns are located close by. Unfortunately, due to the high winds, it is not a good beach for swimming, but it offers easy access to other beaches that are not as windy. Families may want to skip this beach and head elsewhere due to the winds.

Ornos

Located only meters from Korfos and just 3 km (1.8 miles) from Mykonos Chora, Ornos is one of the most popular beaches near the capital. Due to its tourist appeal, it can often become overcrowded. Many water sports, including windsurfing and sea skiing, are offered, and it is easy to rent umbrellas and chairs. Its proximity to a large hotel means that restaurants and bars are readily available.

Paradise

The most famous beach on Mykonos, Paradise is located 6km (3.7 miles) from Mykonos Chora. It is a magnet for the younger crowd, as it is known as a party beach and is often frequented by nudists. During the day, it offers water sports and diving, and the nearby Cavo Paradiso features a restaurant, bar, and pool. At night, Paradise Beach becomes a seaside nightclub with music and dancing until dawn.

Mykonos is definitely one of those islands where people flock to from all over the world. Locals and tourists alike spend their free time lounging at the beaches. Whether you are traveling with family and friends and looking for the perfect location for swimming, tanning, windsurfing or music and dancing, you will be able to experience a once in a lifetime opportunity on any one of these beaches.
