Best Beaches to Visit on the Island of Halki

Written by in , Comments Off on Best Beaches to Visit on the Island of Halki

Halki is one of those islands in Greece that was once known for its sponge fisherman. As a result of the sponge trade, the island was once wealthy and the landscape is dotted with mansions. The economy on the island is much different now and the people who live on the island lead quiet, traditional lives. For visitors, however, the island is just as beautiful and captivating as it always was. People flock here on the island to enjoy the beaches and natural scenery. Here’s a look at the best beaches to visit during your time on the Greek island of Halki:

Potamos Beach

Potamos Beach, also referred to as Podamos, is considered to be the most popular beach on Halki island. The reason for this is that it is fairly close to the capital of island, Nimborio. One of the things that visitors love about this beach is that it is easily accessed on foot from the main road. While here, if you haven’t rented a car, you can always take a taxi or other transportation to this beach, as well. There are some gorgeous views here and the beach is made up of a fine, gentle sand. The waters are warm and that makes it an ideal beach for swimming. This beach also has sun beds and umbrellas to rent.

Kania Beach

Kania Beach is also fairly close to the capital town of the island, Nimborio. At only one kilometer away, you can easily drive, rent a taxi, or take a bus to the beach. If you decide to walk, it will take about thirty minutes. Since it isn’t as close to Nimborio as Potamos Beach, it doesn’t get as busy. However, there are also sun beds and umbrellas here to rent and there is also a small snack bar that serves refreshments. The beach is also every bit as beautiful as Potamos. If you’re staying close to Nimborio, you should visit both Kania and Potamos so that you can determine which one you like better!

Ftenagia Beach

Although this beach is also close to Nimborio, it isn’t necessarily as popular as Potamos, mainly because there isn’t sand here – it’s made up of fine pebbles. However, it is much closer to Nimborio than Kania and Potamos and so because of that, it does receive a healthy amount of visitors. There are sun beds and umbrellas to rent as well and the beachside are has plenty of tavernas and other choices for refreshment. This is the ideal spot for those who want to lounge at the beach before eating a delicious Greek meal.

Trachea Beach

Because this beach is located about 3 kilometers away from Nimboria, it doesn’t see the same amounts of people as Ftenagia, Kania, and Potamos. Trachea Beach is ideal for those who want a slightly quieter beach experience. However, this beach is gorgeous and has warm, crustal blue waters that people enjoy. In fact, if you want to enjoy the scenery, this is the beach to head to. There are two coves located at this beach and there are plenty of places to explore. It’s also a great place for swimming since the waters are so calm.

While on the island of Halki, you’ll want to visit these beaches!
