As the biggest of the Dodokanese islands, Rhodes is one of those islands where you can get lost. In some cases, it is possible to get lost in history by exploring the vast ruins. There is also a definite Medieval feel here since the island was once the official seat of the Knights of Saint John. Besides that, the island is physically beautiful and has a lot to offer visitors, including places to hike and plenty of beaches to sit at. There are also some villages that are worth exploring, such asIalissos. Here’s a look at why you should explore Ialissos and what you should do once you’re there:

Getting to Ialissos, Rhodes

Before you can actually make your way to Ialissos, you need to first get yourself to the island of Rhodes. Since it is a large island, there are a few options for you. There is a regional airport here so it is possible to take a flight from points within Greece and also some places outside of Greece. Rhodes is also accessible by ferry or boat and it is even a stop on some cruise routes. If you really want to get to know the island, though, you will want to spend time here so arriving by ferry or airplane are your best bets. Ialissos is located on the northern part of the island is about a one-hour drive from Lindos. You can get there by taxi, bus, or through your rental car.

What to Do in Ialissos, Rhodes

Once you arrive at Ialissos, your next order of business is to do a little exploring. The village is located right on the water, which means that are beaches in the area. In fact, people flock to this beach from all over Rhodes just because it is supposed to be one of the island’s best. Besides that, there are other landmarks you can enjoy and plenty of shops to visit, as well as local restaurants and tavernas. Here’s a look at what you can do while here:

  • Ialissos Beach. Of the beaches near this village, Ialissos Beach is considered one of the best. It is made up of fine sand and the water is a crystal blue and very warm. It is a great way to spend the day! There are also sun beds and umbrellas to rent while you’re here.
  • Monastery of Filerimos. If you want to do something a little different, consider heading to this monastery for a visit. Here, you can learn all about the Greek Orthodox Christian faith and enjoy the physical beauty of the monastery. Be sure to observe the rules of the monastery and dress appropriately while you’re here.
  • Ancient Ialissos. This village was once a central hub of activity on the island and was considered to be one of the centers of Rhodes. As a result of that, the ruins are fairly prolific and definitely interesting to explore.
