What to Do in Kamari Santorini

Written by in , Comments Off on What to Do in Kamari Santorini

Santorini is one of the most travel destinations in Greece and once you’re on the island, it can feel as if you have stepped into another time. The island itself is stunningly beautiful, and much of what you will do while visiting here is located on the rim of the dormant volcano overlooking the famous caldera.

Kamari is one of those places on the island that you will want to visit, even if you don’t have long. Here’s a look at some of the things you can do while in Kamari on the island of Santorini:

Ancient Thera

Thera is one of the main archaeological sites on the island of Santorini. If you do nothing else in Kamari, you should consider paying a visit here. Not only will you be able to glimpse a bit of Ancient Greece, but you will also have some excellent views of the sea once you climb up to the site. The city itself is located on the edge of a steep cliff on a mountainside. It hasn’t been inhabited for some time, and there is evidence to suggest that it was negatively impacted y Santorini’s massive, ancient volcanic eruption. This site is definitely worth your time and if possible, take the time to learn the history of the site through a tour while you’re here.

Kamari Beach

If you love visiting unique beaches, you won’t want to miss the chance to visit Kamari Beach. Like many beaches on the island, Kamari shows evidence of volcanic activity. This beach features warm, black sand that directly came from the ancient volcano. It is also one of the most popular beaches on the island so there are plenty of facilities. There are also sun beds and umbrellas to rent. This is the perfect beach for relaxing and swimming and to take in the beauty of the island.

Gaia Winery

Like many places in Greece, Santorini is known for its wines. The Gaia Winery, which is located in Kamari, is an excellent place to sample some of the island’s best. The winery itself is in a great location by the sea, and when you taste, you do so with the water by your side. If you love to sample wine in a relaxing and gorgeous setting, you won’t want to miss this site. Although Greece isn’t necessarily known for its beer, the Donkey Brewery is nearby and you can also sample the beers there once you are done at the winery.

Gabbiano Nero Sculpture and Art

Are you looking to do a little souvenir shopping? Before you’re finished in Kamari, you should consider stopping in on Gabbiano Nero Sculpture and Art so that you can take something home. There are some handmade items here, such as sculptures and art, and the selection at the shop will remind you of your time on the island. This is also a great place to browse and take in the culture of the island.

While on Santorini, you will want to spend some time in the beautiful village of Kamari.
