Don’t Miss the Potami Waterfalls on the Greek Island of Samos

Written by in , Comments Off on Don’t Miss the Potami Waterfalls on the Greek Island of Samos

Although Samos is a small island, it is packed with so many things to do, you will find that it is easy to spend a week or more here. Whether lounging on the beach, hiking the hills, or spending time at a museum, or even shopping, you will find that this island truly has something for everyone. There are, however, some things that are easy to miss. For instance, you could be so enamored with Potami Beach that you might not realize that there are some beautiful waterfalls worth seeing that are close to the beach. Here’s a look at why you won’t want to miss the chance to visit the Potami Waterfalls:

Getting to Samos

Samos is one of those Greek island destinations that is fairly popular, especially during peak season. As a result, there are several ways you can get here. The island actually does have a regional airport, which is located about four kilometers from Pythagorio on the island. Flights leave fairly regularly from the Athens airport. You can also take a ferry to the island, and Samos is known as being a popular stop for cruises. The fastest way to get to the island, however, is to take a flight. Once you land at the airport, you can take a taxi, bus, or rent a car so that you can get to your hotel.

Relax at Potami Beach

Before visiting the waterfall, you may want to spend some time lounging at the beach. There’s a lot to love about the beach. The water is a crystal, clear blue and it’s always warm. People also report that there are plenty of beachside cafes and other facilities near the beach but somehow, this doesn’t make the beach feel crowded with tourists. Rather, this is a great spot to soak up the sun that doesn’t get oppressively busy. So many people spend most of their time here, however, without realizing that the waterfalls are nearby.

Spend Time at the Waterfalls

Once you are done relaxing at the beach, it’s time to have a change of scenery! Located nearby, the Potami waterfalls are a stunning example of just how much nature can actually change. All you need to do is follow the river a short way until you reach the first falls. There are two more sets of waterfalls, but those require a bit more of a walk. If you know that you want to walk to see both of these falls, you should make sure that you are prepared with water, supplies, and the proper footwear. Although the trail isn’t difficult, it can be hard on your body and your feet if you don’t have the right clothes and shoes for the job.

As you can see, there is more to Greece’s natural environment than just its beaches. In fact, if you step almost immediately outside of beaches like Potami, you will find other great wonders, such as Potami Waterfalls.
