Town of Mykonos as seen from the old harbor. Image shows charateristi architecture of the old town. When many people think of Mykonos, they look at at it solely as an island for those who want to experience the nightlife and parties. While that is certainly the case, the island is known for much more than that! Although nearby Santorini seems to get much of the glory when it comes to sunsets, Mykonos is one of those islands that shouldn’t be ignored. The sunset here on Mykonos is also spectacular. Here are some of the best places on the island to enjoy the sunset:

Little Venice

If you’re in the Little Venice area of Mykonos at sunset, you really can’t go wrong. This is regarded as one of the best places on the island to watch the sun dip over the horizon. Widely regarded as one of the most romantic places on the island, Little Venice is also perfectly located so that there are multiple locations here to gaze at the setting sun. Spend some time wandering the streets so you can find the perfect spot and you won’t be disappointed!

Beaches

When it comes to watching the sunset, few places are as good as the beaches that are on the western side of the island! Agios Iannis is one of those beaches and even though it is fairly small, you will be treated to a spectacular display as the light changes with the setting sun. You can also try viewing the sunset at Kapori Beach. Both of these beaches are gorgeous but not as popular as some of the other resort beaches on the island.

Mykonos Town Harbor

Another prime location for watching the sunset on Mykonos is at the harbor in Mykonos Town. Get here a few hours in advance so that you can scope out the best location! There are even some cafes and tavernas that overlook the harbor, but you’ll need to get to them well in advance of the sunset so that you can be sure to have a prime spot.

Windmills

Mykonos has plenty of windmills sprinkled throughout the island, but you won’t want to miss the ones that are in a prime location for sunset! Checkout the windmills at the harbor of Alefkandra and also the windmills that are located on the hills of Chora. If you’re lucky, you can capture the sunset just as it’s illuminating these unique landmarks.

Castle Panigirakis

Castle Panigirakis has long been regarded as one of the best places to watch the sunset on all of Mykonos! Visitors flock to this site not just for the sunset, but also for their special events, such as destination weddings. This is actually a hotel that overlooks Mykonos Town and has one of the best views of the setting sun on the whole island. If you decide to stay here, be sure to request a room that faces the legendary sunset so that you can enjoy it every night!

While on Mykonos, you won’t want to miss viewing the sunset at these spectacular places!
