Top Things to Do in Mykonos Greece

Written by in , Comments Off on Top Things to Do in Mykonos Greece

Mykonos is one of the most interesting islands in Greece for a variety of reasons. Even though it is most known for its nightlife, the island also has stunning beaches, a rich history, and plenty of things to do for the whole family! Whether you spend your days sunbathing, dine by the sea in a gorgeous cafe, or visit some of the archaeological sites, your time on Mykonos will be a vacation to remember.

Here are some things you should do while you are visiting the island of Mykonos, Greece:

Delos

There’s no better way to experience the rich history of the island than to visit the archaeological site at Delos. Although it’s a separate island, it is quite close to Mykonos, which makes it a great day trip. Delos has a rich mythological history, as this is where Apollo and Artemis were said to be born. While visiting the site, be sure to stop in on the Archaeological Museum of Delos, which houses many of the artifacts uncovered at the dig site.

Matoyianni Street

If you’re looking for an excellent place to shop during your time on the island, Matoyianni Street is it! One of the things that makes Greece great is its wealth of amazing shopping experiences. Streets such as this can be found all over the country, and this particular street is filled with plenty of traditional shopping experiences, souvenir shops, and plenty of boutiques to make even the most serious shoppers happy. Located in Chora, Magoyianni Street is something you won’t want to miss!

Elia Beach

Even if you are on the island to take in some of the famous bars and nightclubs, you still won’t want to miss Elia Beach. Gorgeous scenery, sun, and seaside bars – this beach has something for the whole family! A bit more subdued than some of the other beaches on the island, you can experience a typical beachside scene in a much tamer environment. You can easily spend the day here.

Rarity Gallery

If you love art, you won’t want to miss the Rarity Gallery, which is filled with one of the most beautiful art collections in all of Greece. The art is also fairly unusual, with many of the “art objects” looking like real people. Although there isn’t a lot of room, the proprietors of the shop are devoted to finding the most beautiful and interesting objects that they can find.

The Windmills (Kato Milli)

Whenever you look at a collection of photographs from Mykonos, windmills will inevitably be in some of the shots. These windmills were essential to the island, and they are also beautiful. The Windmills, or Kato Milli, are a fine example of the types of windmills that can be found on the island. These windmills are located in downtown Chora and will make for some excellent, memorable photographs. Try to take your shot at sunset, which will make your photographs even more unique!

As you will find out, there are a lot of things to do in Mykonos. However, no matter how much time you have, these things should be at the top of your list!
