Each year, people flock to the Greek island of Rhodes in order to soak up the sun and see the sites. They divide their time between sitting on one of the island’s top beaches, learning about the unique history, and taking in the amazing Greek culture. However, there are also some unique things to do on the island, such as visiting the Toy Museum of Rhodes. Here’s more information about visiting this museum:

Getting to the Toy Museum of Rhodes

The Toy Museum on the Greek Island of Rhodes is located right outside the village of Archipoli in a rural setting. In fact, although it may seem remote since it is surrounded by forests, it is actually easy to get to.  However, before you can make your way to the museum, you need to first get to the village. Archipoli is located away from the coast and is about an hour’s drive from Rhodes Town. For example, it is about a 50 minute drive from the historic Castle of the Grand Master in Rhodes Town. Before you can do any of these things, however, you need to first make your way to the island of Rhodes. You can do so either by plane or by ferry.

About the Toy Museum

The Rhodes Toy Museum is actually free to visit, and it really shines because it showcases toys that were all made in Greece during the 1930’s through the 1990’s. This was the first toy museum in Greece and countless visitors have felt like they are perusing through their own childhood while visiting it. Many people who come here remember these toys from their youth but even if you didn’t grow up here, you will certainly find it enjoyble. It is open daily from April to November, but you’ll want to check the hours ahead of time before you visit just in case there are any last minute changes.

What to See While at the Toy Museum

While visiting the Rhodes Toy Museum, you will be able to see battery operated cars, board games, wind up tin toys, and more. There is also a Game Room that is housed in the basement of the toy museum that is stocked with arcade coin operated machines that date back to the sixties through the nineties. Some of the machines in the basement include a jukebox, pinball machine, and old arcade games that are all in working condition, which means that you’ll get try them. 

Aside from the exhibitions, there is an area for children where they can play with some of the toys that are not on exhibition. Some of the toys children can play with there include playmobil and lego, and their are interactive toys as well as handicraft activities kids can engage in. Outside of The Rhodes Toy Museum, there is a playground for kids as well as a terrace where travelers can take in the gorgeous views. Before leaving, visitors to the museum can pick up original Rhodes Toy Museum souvenirs at the gift shop to memorialize their visit to one of the most fun and interesting places in the Greek Isles.
