Written by in , Comments Off on Where to Visit in Kassiopi, Corfu

Kassiopi is a lively, yet peaceful town that is located on the northern coast of Corfu, Greece. Stunning white beaches with cobalt waters border this village, and the rich history that dates back to Roman times make it a fascinating place to spend a vacation. Following are five great things to do while spending time in Kassiopi.

Kassiopi Tower

This historical site sits on a hill that overlooks the bay of Kassiopi and the channel between Corfu and the mainland. The Kassiopi Tower was built in Roman and Byzantine times as a lookout and has since been pillaged by the Ottomans and Venetians.

Despite its past, the stone remains still stand tall on the hillside and can be seen from the town below. The tower can be accessed by a short hike from Kassiopi, providing an elevated view of the harbor and an opportunity to walk around the ruins and surrounding olive trees.

Old Perithia

Old Perithia is an intriguing old ghost town built on Mount Pantokrator that lies inland from Kassiopi. The ancient village was built during Byzantine times and was once a bustling town that kept its inhabitants out of sight from passing pirates. It is one of the oldest permanently inhabited communities in Corfu.

The various stone structures remain as a testament to the past, and there are still a few beings that live amongst the crumbling buildings. Old Perithia can be easily reached by bus from Kassiopi, and visitors can spend the day exploring the old buildings and churches and visiting some of the few taverns that continue to operate near the main square.

Kalamionas Beach

This picturesque beach is a prime spot to kick back and relax in one of the many sunbeds and swim in the calm turquoise waters from the pebbly shore. Snorkeling and scuba diving allow visitors to enjoy the variety of fish and underwater creatures just off the coast. Kalamionas Beach lies within walking distance from the center of Kassiopi, and there are many hotels, restaurants, bars, and shops that are set right behind the beach.

Avlaki Beach

Avlaki Beach is a quiet slice of paradise a few kilometers outside of Kassiopi. White pebbly sands stretch down to the crystal waters that meet the Albanian mountains in the distance, and sun beds and parasols can be set up for a relaxing day enjoying these views. This beach offers many watersports, including sailing, boat trips, canoeing, and paddle boarding. There are a few taverns located near the beach that serve delicious local eats.

Bataria Beach

Located near the port of Kassiopi, this quaint beach is in close proximity to numerous bars, shops, taverns, and accommodations along the main road of the town. Despite its small size, this cove is an exquisite location to set up the beach gear for the day. The rocky perches at the corners of the beach offer a pristine spot to lay out a towel in the sun, and the water is clear, offering a view of many fish that can be seen near shore.

Kassiopi is a great place to spend time on the beautiful beaches of Corfu, and there are various activities that can be done near the water or around the town to ensure a fun-filled vacation in this wonderful destination. These five spots are some of the best of Kassiopi and are a must-see when in the area.
