The village of Hersonissos in Crete, Greece is one of those places you won’t want to miss. While here,  you may notice the perfect blue water, streaming sunlight, and beautiful people. However, there is so much more to do here than just enjoy the scenery or sit at one of its beaches. This village is one of the many places to enjoy on the island, and each of these places has its own character. Here’s a look at some of the things you can do while in Hersonissos:

Star Beach Water Park

Instead of just sit at the beach, why not try something different? The most popular tourist option is the Star Beach Water Park, which kids love because of its activities like giant slides and bungee jumping. You decide whether to explore the beach or to use the pools and rides if that is more your thing. For adults, Star Beach hosts parties as well, some with a live DJ and foam! Star Beach has a variety of restaurants in the area, so there’s no danger of going hungry.

Explore the Labyrinth Theme Park

The Minoan Civilization left its mark on Crete, and Hersonissos is on of those places where you can explore it. In the hills above Hersonissos, you’ll find The Labyrinth Theme Park, which celebrates Crete’s Minoan culture. Spend an hour or two getting lost in the labyrinth itself, and then choose from a variety of other activities: mini-golf, quad bikes, interactive videos, and eating at the café!

Visit the Aquaworld Aquarium

Do you love to learn about marine life? If so, you’ll want to visit Crete’s first aquarium – the Aquaworld Aquarium. Here, you can explore the marine life most commonly found in the area as well as the Reptile Rescue. This is something that will be good for people of all ages, but if you have children this is especially ideal. You can see and learn about a variety of sea life and reptiles, and even feed and touch some of them! Since many of the reptiles have been rescued, a visit to the aquarium also supports a good cause.

Take a Bike Tour of Crete and Hersonissos

Do you want to tour the area but would rather do something a little more active? Consider taking a bicycle tour of the coast of Hersonissos with a guided tour from Cycling Creta. You can choose from Level 1, which is recommended for younger children and those who rarely bike, to Level 4, which is only for serious mountain bikers. The guides will make plenty of stops, allowing you to take photos, eat, and maybe even swim! The tours take around four hours and Cycling Creta offers a shuttle service.

Explore the Nightlife

A multitude of pubs and night clubs light up the bustling town of Hersonissos every evening. Options range from low-key Irish pubs like Shenanigans, to house music-blasting dance clubs like the New York Club or the Palm Beach Club–almost all located within walking distance of each other. Start your nightlife journey by walking along the eastern coast of Hersonissos and then see where the night takes you!

With so many exciting options on Hersonissos, it can be hard to know where to begin! We hope this guide helps you find the activities that are right for you.

Hersonissos. Crimea

Crete is one of those places that has a lot to offer. As Greece’s largest island, there are wealth of experiences you can have. In fact, on any given day you could decide to spend your time in a quiet mountain village, sit on a relaxing beach, or take in the bustling city life in a place like Chania or Heraklion. But for those who want to spend their days lounging in a relaxing seaside resort, Hersonissos is the place to be!

Hersonissos is a town on the northernmost coast of Crete. It’s known for its languid atmosphere, thriving traditional life, and ancient past. The ancient town of Chersonesos is located inside the resort town’s current borders. Though much has changed between then and now, one thing has remained the same – the Mediterranean sun and the opportunity people staying in Hersonissos have to enjoy it.

Getting to Hersonissos

In order to get to Hersonissos you can take an airplane or a ferry. The closest airport and port are both in Heraklion, which is an easy thirty-minute drive from Hersonissos. Once you arrive, you can rent a car, take a bus, or take a taxi. If you want the greatest amount of freedom, you may want to consider renting a car. In order to rent a car in Greece, you may need to get an international driver’s license. Before you leave for your trip. Check with the rental car company to see if one of these licenses is truly needed.

Great Destination for Families

One thing that sets this resort town apart from others is the distinct families feel that it has. Like most Greek tourist areas, there is some nightlife. However, that’s not what dominates this resort community. Families flock here year after year to give their kids a chance to enjoy the Greek sun and beaches without the hectic feel of the resort communities that are known for their nightlife. Aside from spending time playing at the beach, there are plenty of things for families to do such as explore the ancient ruins and visit a local aquarium, the (Aqua World Aquarium), which gives kids a hands on approach to learning about the local sea life.

Visit Area Museums

Another thing you can do while visiting this part of Crete is visit area museums, which is an activity that is great for adults and kids alike. For example, the Lychnostatis Open Air Museum is a great tribute to the early people of the island, including information about their lifestyles and their trade history. Also, the museum has an herbarium and workshops on making olive oil and ceramics.

After you spend the day sightseeing and enjoying the area beaches, it’s time to enjoy a bit of the real culture on Crete by enjoying a traditional meal. The food on this island is fresh and rich with local flavor, and the restaurants found in Hersonissos live up to this reputation. Finish your delicious meal with a taste of traditional raki and your day will be complete!

No matter which corner of the world you go to, you’ll find theme parks that cater to every kind of entertainment craving. But not many can claim to be both fun for the whole family while being educational at the same time. Yet that’s just what the Labyrinth Theme Park in Hersonissos, Greece manages to pull off. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience that both kids and adults love. Here’s everything you need to know about it and why it’s a must-see if you’re in the area.

About Labyrinth Theme Park

You’ll find the Labyrinth Theme Park situated on 15 hectares in the hills above the town of Hersonissos. That’s in the north of the island of Crete, the most populous island in Greece, within a scenic resort area. It’s also the historic center of the Minoan civilization, with roots dating back to 3500 BC.

The park itself is a monument to the area’s historical heritage. It’s filled with themed attractions that both celebrate the area’s rich history while teaching visitors all about its significance within the annals of human civilization. It accomplishes this through fun and educational activities that keep visitors enthralled and entertained for hours on end.

What to Do at Labyrinth Theme Park

There’s no shortage of fun activities in the park for visitors of all ages. Informative videos about the Minoan civilization play throughout the day in the park’s projection room. Visitors can play a round of mini-golf, enjoy archery, or even go on a donkey ride!

That’s not all there is to do, however. Visitors can also go quad riding on a custom-built track on the property. They can also go for a walk through the eco-garden or see the animals in the park’s mini-farm. Or, more adventurous types can try their hands at escaping Atlantis – the famed underwater city – or tackle the Trojan Horse-themed Laser maze.

But the heart of the park is its Labyrinth, which offers 1300 square meters of twists, turns, and dead ends. It’s the work of world-renowned maze designer Adrian Fisher, who drew inspiration from the mythical labyrinth that ancient Minoan legend insists once existed on the island. It was said to be the home of the Minotaur – a fearsome half-man, half-bull – which was imprisoned within so it could never escape and harm the island’s inhabitants.

Getting to Labyrinth Theme Park

The Labyrinth Theme Park is easy to reach from almost any location on the island of Crete. It’s just 25 kilometers away from the airport, should you decide to make it your first stop upon arriving on the island. But if you’re already touring the historic capital city of Heraklion, you’re well within range, too. Because the park is located in the island’s most popular resort area, it’s also a short walk from the Crete Golf Club, the Village Heights Resort, and the Acqua Plus Water Park.

So, if you or your family are going to be in the area, you should visit the Labyrinth Theme Park. It’s intellectually stimulating and fun and will give you a new perspective on the ancient civilization that once called Crete home. Plus, it’s not every day that you can have the chance to come face-to-face with the fearsome Minotaur!

Crete is the largest — and thus, the most populated — island of all the Greek islands, and it is home to one of the most frequented travel spots in all of Greece.

The town of Hersonissos is one of the hot spots to visit during your stay in Greece for a reason. They’ve got everything that a vacationer could ask for. From beautiful beaches, to exciting nightlife, historical museums, adventurous outdoor activities, waterparks, golf courses and so much more! There is something exciting to do in Hersonissos for travelers of all ages and interests.

One of the most popular, if not the most popular, attraction in Hersonissos is the Aquaworld Aquarium & Reptile Rescue Centre. With over twenty years of experience, you will be inspired by the owners’ passion and compassion for reptiles and aquatic life. They are full information and they love sharing their knowledge. Probably the best part about the whole rescue center is how interactive the experience is. You are up close and personal with these animals and learning every little detail about them along the way, which makes for an enjoyable day.

If you’re a fan of museums, then you’ll need to pay a visit to the Lychnostatis Open Air Museum. The walls of the museum are lined with collections of Cretan culture. As you journey through the museum, you will learn their history of living exhibit-by-exhibit. In total, it takes about an hour to stroll around the museum.

If you’re traveling with children, you have the choice of two different water parks and one theme park in Hersonissos. First, there’s the Acqua Plus Water Park with enough water slides to make a day out of it. Then there’s Star Beach Water Park, which is jam packed with water rides, slides and pools. The music played throughout the park makes for a great and fun atmosphere. Finally, the Labyrinth Theme Park is perfect if you have children along with you on your vacation. Not only do you get to enjoy the excitement of finding your own way in and out of the labyrinth, but you’re also learning about Greek mythology in the process.

The sightseeing in Hersonissos is fascinating. If you’ve got the time in your schedule, set aside a few hours to see the Cave of Zeus. However, travelers beware, as there will be some hiking involved to get to and from the cave. But the experience of being there is well worth the huffing and puffing it takes to get there, if you are physically able to do it. That being said, this probably shouldn’t be on your to-do list if either you or someone in your group can’t handle climbing and descending several hundred stairs.

The outdoor activities are plentiful, as you can visit the horses at Arion Stables, enjoy a guided mountain biking adventure for riders of all experience levels with Cycling Creta, or go on a motor safari with the excellent staff at Moto Xperience. If none of those activities are up your alley, then perhaps you might enjoy riding a horse along the water of the beach with Hersonissos Riding Center Day Tours? And for all you golfers out there, the Crete Golf Club is a beautiful course, but when you add in the fact that the view is magnificent throughout the entire course, now you’ve truly entered golfer’s paradise.
