DESCRIPTION:“Rhetoric of the Gods: Echoes of Antiquity in 17th Century French Lute Music” – introduction and performance by Catherine Liddell\nCatherine Liddell is known primarily for her skill\, sensitivity and experience accompanying 16th and 17th century music on lute and theorbo. In that capacity\, she has performed with many of America’s leading period instrument ensembles\, including\, locally\, the Handel & Haydn Society and Boston Baroque. In the solo repertoire for lute\, she has a deep passion for 17th century French music and has given recitals of this rarely-heard repertoire at the Lute Society of America Summer Seminars and in fringe events at the Boston Early Music Festival. Her solo recording\, La Belle Voilée\, 17th Century French Music by Jacques Gallot and Others is available on the Centaur label and on iTunes.\nShe has also published Sacred Music for Lute\, available through Lyre Editions\, Fort Worth\, Texas. A graduate of Sarah Lawrence College\, Ms. Liddell earned the Soloist Diploma from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel\, Switzerland. She is Lecturer in Lute in the Historical Performance Program at Boston University and recently was appointed Chairman of the Board of the Aston Magna Foundation\, which sponsors the longest running annual summer festival in America devoted to music performed on period instruments. For this program she explores the lute’s association with ancient Greek mythology which began in the 15th century and continued into the 17th century.

DESCRIPTION:Dear Fellow Parishioners and Friends of St. John the Baptist:\nWe are almost at the end of the great Lent\, a period of spiritual preparation for our participation in Christ’s death and resurrection through fasting\, repentance\, prayer\, reflection and charity. Our efforts during this holy season are to become more reflective than active\, to focus our efforts towards those virtues\, values and relationships that allow us to come closer to God and each other. In Christ’s death and resurrection\, the boundless love of God for the world is fully expressed and communicated to all of us. As Orthodox Christians during the Holy Week\, we reaffirm our faith in the crucified and risen Son of God and embrace those values\, beliefs\, and virtues that bring the fullness of life not only to us but the whole world. The resurrection of Christ irrevocably plants in our lives the hope that transcends the limitation of this world and refuses to give a sense of finality to the afflictions\, violence and barbarity of history.\nIt is our fervent hope and prayer that you and your beloved family will make every effort to participate in Our Church’s liturgical services during the Holy Week and allow the Holy Spirit to transform our lives to a living icon of Christ. It will be a great blessing on Easter night to proclaim to each other and to the world the good news:\nIt is the day of Resurrection: let us make ourselves resplendent for the festival and embrace one another\, Let us say\, brethren\, even to those who do not love us:\nLet all be forgiven in the Resurrection\, and so exclaim:\nChrist is risen from the dead\, trampling death be death\, and bestowing life on those in the graves.\nWe hope that you will come to our historic and beautiful Church to pray with us\, prepare to receive the body of Christ\, be anointed with Holy Unction on Holy Wednesday\, participate in the services of Christ’s crucifixion\, unnailing from the cross\, and burial on Holy Friday evening\, celebrate His glorious Resurrection on Holy Saturday night\, and the Agape service on Easter Sunday.\nOn Palm\, Sunday\, April 1st\, all the friends and parishioners with their families are invited to the traditional Fish Luncheon at the Church hall. SUMMARY:1968 by Tassos Boulmetis Movie Screening in Cambridge MA
DESCRIPTION:The Harvard Greek Film Society presents:\n1968\nDocumentary/Fiction\, 94 ΄\, 2018\nSynopsis: April 4th\, 1968. The Kallimarmaro Stadium is abuzz\, with thousands of people gathered and millions listening through their radios. The AEK – Slavia Prague basketball game has just begun. A girl in love is dreaming of her wedding day\, while the future husband becomes more desperate with every Greek ball going through the hoop. An elderly husband and wife remember the home they left behind. A young communist prisoner cheers from his jail cell and a PROPO betting shop becomes the place where old and new wounds resurface. Years before this night\, three Constantinopolitans decided to create an athletic union that would tell their story. At the end of this night\, Greek history will have changed forever.\nTassos Boulmetis\nHe studied Physics at the University of Athens and\, with a scholarship support from the A. Onassis Foundation\, Film Production and Direction at UCLA\, where he taught directing actors for film and television as an assistant professor. In Greece\, he started his career as a director/producer of shows for the public television\, before writing\, directing and co-producing his first feature\, “The Dream Factory“\, which obtained 8 awards in Greece and the Golden Award of Fantasy Movies at the Houston Film Festival. His second feature\, the semi-autobiographical “A Touch of Spice”\, became the biggest hit ever in Greece with over 1.600.00 admissions\, was distributed in 45 countries and was Greece’s official entry for the Academy Awards of 2005. His recent academic activities include teaching classes on Advanced Film Directing in private institutions in Greece. He is the first unanimously elected president of the Hellenic Film Academy and a member of European Film Academy.\nThe screening will be followed by a light reception and Q&A with the director Tassos Boulmetis who will be present! We feel extremely honored that Mr. Boulmetis has agreed to travel to Boston for our event!\n \nClick here for a brief interview with the director and some of the actors of the film.

She is a member of the WBL Middlesex University\, London. She has collaborated to produce animation films with the biggest companies in Greece\, including Mosquito and Artoon S.A. In 1995\, she established her own production company and created several productions\, such as Cartoons 36/Episodes of 26 on Greek television.\nIn 2011\, she created the films Diadromes and Emmones. She has written books and papers about animation art\, and has been a jury member on several animation festivals\, including the 2002 Selection Committee for the Hiroshima Animation Festival.\nModerated by VMA Assistant Professor Dr. Sarah Zaidan.\nHosted by WLP\, ASIFA HELLAS\, and the Circle of Hellenic Academics in Boston.
