DESCRIPTION:In our day and age\, reading books about how to be more effective leaders in the workplace is common practice. When reflecting on contemporary leadership theories\, an Orthodox Christian may recognize some overlaps with fundamental tenets of our faith. What does the Orthodox tradition have to teach us about leadership\, broadly speaking\, for all people in the Church? What does it mean to be leaders in the workplace and people of Orthodox Christian faith? \nFr. Tom is a renowned Orthodox theologian and Dean Emeritus of St Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary. He travels very little now in his retirement\, but makes the trip to Hellenic College Holy Cross every summer to serve as a professor at the CrossRoad Summer Institute. During his upcoming visit\, he will give a public address on “The Theological Foundations of Leadership\,” as part of an ongoing initiative for Emerging Leaders sponsored by a Leadership 100 grant to the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston.\nThe lecture is free and open to the wider Orthodox community. Yiannis also served as the artistic director and instructor for Lykeion Ellinidion Florinas\, teaching over 200 dancers of all ages on a weekly basis\, as well as teaching at the Cultural Associations of Agios Panteleimonias\, Kelli\, Simos Ioannidis and Sitaria. \nSince 2013\, Yiannis has organized a series of weekend seminars with teachers such as himself\, who throughout their lives has immersed themselves in culture\, traditions music and dance of their respective regions for leaders of Greek dance associations interested in understanding the cultural\, social and historical context of the dances they are performing\, upon completion\, participants receive a certificate from the University of West Macedonia.\nYiannis is married to Ira Koloni\, who also teaches in Athens and Florina and along with their two children Xenia 18 and Simos 12\, share the love of Greek dance and music in order to pass the traditions to the future generations.

DESCRIPTION:It is with great pleasure that we invite all students of Greek origin\, who are beginning or continuing their studies at Colleges and Universities in and around the Boston area\, to the 2014 Student Workshop at the Greek Consulate in Boston on Monday\, September 22nd from 6:00- 7:30 pm. The Student Workshop is a 90minute event that will serve as an introduction to academic life in the United States\, providing the necessary tips you need to excel in every aspect of college life. This event is different from any other college lecture you will attend and is unlike the rest of your orientation activities because it is practical and has been designed specifically to address difficulties that you may have or encounter.\nGreek and American professors from TUFTS\, Boston University\, and MIT will serve as guest speakers for the workshop. Each guest professor has prepared a short presentation and will be available for a question and answer section following the conclusion of the event. Students beyond the freshmen year as well as anyone who has come to New England to continue his/her studies\, including graduate students are also welcome to this event. Beyond meeting these professors and learning about ways to maximize your opportunities in your studies\, you will have the opportunity to meet fellow Greek students in the Boston area.
