Even though pizza didn’t originate in Greece, that doesn’t mean that Greeks can’t enjoy it! Although there is some debate as to what Greek pizza really is, our version of Greek pizza contains all of our favorite Greek-style ingredients, such as feta cheese, Kalamata olives, olive oil, and oregano. We didn’t include measurements here because everyone likes their pizza differently. Just eyeball your Greek pizza and it will taste delicious!
Ingredients for Greek Pizza:
- Pizza dough (can buy from store)
- Tomato sauce
- Shredded cheese, such as kasseri, a Greek cheese, or mozzarella
- Chopped Onion
- Chopped Pepper
- Crumbled feta cheese
- Kalamata olives, halved
- Olive oil
How to Prepare Greek Style Pizza:
Preheat the oven to 425 Degrees Fahrenheit. Generously rub olive oil onto a round pizza pan. Roll out the pizza dough so that it fits perfectly in the pizza pan. Spread tomato sauce over the dough. Typically, you’ll need about 1/2 cup tomato sauce, but it all depends on how much salt you like.
Top with shredded cheese, such as Kasseri cheese, which is a good, meltable Greek cheese, or mozzarella cheese, the classic pizza cheese. Sprinkle onions and peppers over the cheese (optional) and top with feta cheese and Kalamata olives. Generously drizzle olive oil over the pizza and sprinkle on dried oregano.
Place in the center of the preheated oven and bake until the cheese melts and begins to turn golden brown. This should take about 20 minutes. Let stand for 5 minutes before cutting the pizza.
