About De Bosset Bridge
This is an historical bridge that has been around since 1813. It is currently the largest stone bridge on the sea and it has been since it was built. An engineer from Switzerland named Charles Philippe De Bosset, for whom the bridge was named, created the bridge when he was employed by the British Army. It has been standing ever since. At some points in the bridge’s history, however, it had fallen into disrepair. The most devastating damage took place during a catastrophic earthquake that ripped through the island in the 1950’s but had since been fixed. It was also closed in the early 2000’s for repairs. The bridge still stands today but there are strict usage requirements limiting the weight that the bridge can bear.
