Chania is the second largest city on the island of Crete, and you’ll soon find out why it’s one of the most popular travel destinations in all of Greece.
Located on the north coast on the island of Crete, Chania has two beautiful beaches to choose from. At Iguana Beach, you will find clear waters and not terribly overcrowded sands. The water is also fairly shallow for quite a distance before it starts to get too deep for children. The second beach is called Agii Apostoli Beach. This beach is similar in that the water doesn’t get too deep until you go much further out. There are also plenty of nice restaurants in the area of Agii Apostoli Beach, which is definitely convenient for spending a day at the beach.
When you’re done working on your tan, and you still want something to do outdoors, I highly recommend Captain Nick’s Aphrodite Glass Bottom Boat. It won’t take very long for you to realize that Captain Nick is one of the most entertaining and friendly people that you’re ever going to meet in your entire life. His knowledge is endless, and the experience of one of his boat trips will bring you up close and personal with sea life. This trip is also perfect kids, as Captain Nick will often let them steer the boat. For the incredible amount of fun that you and your guests will have, it’s a tremendous value.
If you’re the adventurous type, you’re not going to want to pass up tandem paragliding and parasailing with Power Fly. Professional and safe, the experience is amazing, as you’ll get to see the beach of Platanias and Chania from the sky. The service itself is also great, as the staff will even pick you up at your hotel and bring you back once your flight is over.
Chania is also full of excellent museums. With the beautiful weather and seemingly never-ending outdoor activities in Chania, I completely understand if you don’t want to stroll around in a museum all day, but you should really set aside some time to check out the Museum of Typography and the Maritime Museum of Crete. At the Museum of Typography, you will learn the fascinating history of the written word and printing. The staff at the museum is incredibly passionate about the subject matter, which makes it so that you can’t help but to be drawn in. And the Maritime Museum of Crete is an incredibly interesting journey back to the past, with two floors of exhibits. This is a must-see for any World War II history buffs.
As far as nightlife goes, you’re going to want to check out the Safe As Milk Bar. It’s a fantastic atmosphere with great drinks and good people. The service is top notch, and it’s located in one of the nicest areas in Chania. And I should also state that while it is great for the nightlife scene, Safe As Milk Bar is really a great spot for any time of the day or night.
