Nafplio, Greece is a seaport town in the Peloponnese. Nafplio was the first capital of the newly established Greek state and was home to the first pharmacy, theatre, and printing office. Watch the Sunset

Watching the sunset anywhere in Greece is a beautiful moment and Nafplio is no different. There are many places to watch the sunset, but a few spots where you might enjoy it with a wonderful and unobstructed view. One of these ideal spots if the clock tower at the Fortress of Acronafplia. The Fortress is located on a hill and a climb up will reward you greatly, not only with the beautiful sunset, but a view of the Argolic Gulf, the city of Nafplio, and Arvanitia Beach. Across from Bourzi Castle you will find Akti Miaouli Street, another good spot to sunset watch.

Enjoy a Late Meal

The town of Nafplio is home to many restaurants with extensive menus. Getting to Tolo Village

Before you can explore Tolo Village, you need to first make your way to the island of Nafplio. If you fly into Athens, you can drive or take a taxi to Nafplio, which will take approximately two hours. There are also hourly busses from Athens. Luckily travel in Greece is quite inexpensive, so getting around won’t be a problem. You can take a taxi, bus, or drive yourself to Tolo Village. About Tolo Village

Located 10 km from Nafplio, Tolo Village is a now developed resort, but its history is long and interesting. The bay of Tolo gave refuge to battle ships during various times. During the Byzantine period, the bay was revived as an auxiliary port to Nafplio. Tolo was first written about Homer when he named it as one of the places that whose fleet took part in the Tojan War. After the Byzantine era, the area came under Frankish rule followed by the Venetians, Ottomans, and Turks. In 1834 a city was founded at the port of Tolo and named Minoa. The beautiful fishing village was formed and in 1914 became known as Tolo. Its beauty and convenient access to nearby archaeological sites have allowed Tolo to become a popular resort town.

What to Do in Tolo Village

Tolo beach is an organized beach with loungers, showers, and canoes and paddle-boats available for rent. Parking is available if you drive there yourself. Around Tolo are the relics of three different historical periods. Palamidi is a fortress in Nafplio. The hill it sits on is 216-meters high. The fortress was build by the Venetians during theirs second occupation of the area. You can reach Palamidi by climbing the 857 winding steps to enjoy the spectacular view. Churches you can visit when around Tolo include: The Church of the Virgin Mary and Church of Ayios Georgios. In Nafplio you can visit the Archaeological Museum of Nauplion.   • Mycenaean Period. Some of the archeological discoveries during this period were: bronze ingot, alabaster and amber in the Nafplio Museum Mycenaean collection. In addition, clay vases, ivory pieces, stone metal and gold jewelry were also discovered.
  • Iron Age Period. It is important to note that this period came after the collapse of the Bronze Age. In this period, weapons were made of iron and could easily be decorated. These remains of iron artifacts are found in Nafplio Museum.
