Samos is one of those islands that people flock to each year to capture some of the magic Greece has to offer. Although it doesn’t get as many visitors as some of the more popular islands, the beaches are still filled with locals and tourists alike who can’t get enough of the sunshine. Here’s a look at some of the beaches you won’t want to miss:

Tsamadou Beach

This is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, and it is situated 3km from Kokkari. This bay is lovely and has lush greenery and crystal blue-green water as its surrounding. There is a small path leading from the main road to the beach. On the beach, you will find a few beach cafeterias and excellent taverns. In spite of the waves that affect the beach when it is windy, the place is excellent for relaxing. The beach is organised with umbrellas and sunbeds and consists of soft pebbles. It is also the only nudist beach on the island. The right part of the beach seen when you are climbing down the path is nudist.

Potokaki Beach

This beach is pebbled and long, and it’s situated 14km west of Samos’ capital, Vathy. It is also 3km away from Pythagorio. The beach has won an award of the Blue Flag, and it’s very famous in the summer. In addition to the clean waters, it is popular for offering tourist facilities such as water sports equipment, beach bars, sundecks, and umbrellas. The beach provides various kinds of accommodation where you can stay as you enjoy the beach. Locals frequent the beach as a result of the Great Ionian Sea and the amazing environment. You can easily reach it via public and private means.

Lemonakia Beach

The location of this sheltered bay is 13km North West of Samos’ capital, Vathy. Partly, it is organised with sundecks and umbrellas and a beach bar offering cold drinks and snacks. This beach is well known for its crystal waters and soft sand. Moreover, it lies close to a beautiful green Samos village named Kokkari that attracts numerous tourists. The turquoise waters form an exotic view with high cliffs and vast vegetation surrounding it. The beach is close to Tsamadou, another popular breach. Easily through private or public transport, you can access the beach.

Psili Beach

Psili beach is long and sandy and lies about 11 km of Samos’ capital, Vathy. This beach has a beautiful quality, mainly because it is quiet and hidden away from the main areas. Cliffs form a nice feel of isolation and protect the beach from wind making it a refuge for the naturists. There are numerous umbrellas and sunbeds along the sandy coast. Near the beach, you will see two taverns among the pine trees on the road.

Tsabou Beach

Tsabou bay is around 3 km from Agios Konstantinos beach and 15km northwest of Samos’ capital, Vathy. You will find a junction consisting of a small circular road leading to Tsabou, following the major road to Karlovassi from Vathy, just after Avlakia. Few accommodation facilities line up the beach and some taverns too. This large bay is open and robust winds that affect it at times during summer. The water is spotless, the seabed is deep, and large pebbles are on the shore.

You won’t want to miss the chance to visit these beaches while on Samos Greek island!

Beautiful Kokkari Beach on greek island SamosSamos is a small island but where it lacks size, it makes up for in beauty! Not only that, but it also takes visitors by surprise. Known for its relaxed resorts and stunning scenery, this island offers the perfect way to enjoy Greece without encountering the big tourist crowds. However, relaxation isn’t all that its known for – there are also plenty of ways to experience the Greek culture, as well. Here are some of the best ways to spend your time will you’re on Samos:

Lounge on the Beach

Like all the islands and coastal areas on mainland Greece, there is no shortage of pretty beaches on the island of Samos. You can easily spend your whole stay lounging on a different beach each day and not run out of things to do! If you only have time to visit one beach, consider headed to Kokkari beach, which is pictured here. It’s a stunningly beautiful spot that has plenty of facilities to enjoy in addition to the beach itself and there are plenty of things to do in the area. If you’re able, consider finding a resort near the beach so you can enjoy Kokkari whenever you want. Other beaches to visit include Tsomadou, Mykali, and Heraion, Balos, and Livadaki Beaches.

Visit the Potami Waterfalls

If you’re looking for something to do that is a bit more active than lounging at the beach, consider hiking up to the Potami Waterfalls. Not only are the waterfalls themselves beautiful, but the area leading up to the falls is stunning in its own way. The whole trip is about 5 kilometers long, and the trail has you walking along a gentle stream as you are guided to several back to back falls. Be sure to bring your cameras because the views are definitely worth capturing!

Spend Time at a Museum

When people think of Samos, they often don’t realize that there are plenty of archaeological gems to explore here. If you compare the Archaeological Museum in Samos to the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, it is hard to be impressed with Samos. It is much smaller than that museum, which can cause you to overlook it entirely. However, this is a huge mistake because this museum is impressive in its own right. Although it is a bit smaller than some of the other museums in Greece, it has an impressive collection that is worth exploring. For those who aren’t really interested in archaeology and ancient history, consider spending your time at the Samos Wine Museum, which showcases wines from the island. In fact, if you have more than one day to spare, consider visiting both museums!

In a lot of ways, Samos is a typical Greek island filled with beaches, great food, nightlife, cultural opportunities, and shopping. However, the island certainly has a charm all its own. When you spend time here, you’ll no doubt fall in love with the gorgeous scenery here and even though the island is on the smaller side, you won’t run out of things to do!

Although Samos is a small island, it is packed with so many things to do, you will find that it is easy to spend a week or more here. Whether lounging on the beach, hiking the hills, or spending time at a museum, or even shopping, you will find that this island truly has something for everyone. There are, however, some things that are easy to miss. For instance, you could be so enamored with Potami Beach that you might not realize that there are some beautiful waterfalls worth seeing that are close to the beach. Here’s a look at why you won’t want to miss the chance to visit the Potami Waterfalls:

Getting to Samos

Samos is one of those Greek island destinations that is fairly popular, especially during peak season. As a result, there are several ways you can get here. The island actually does have a regional airport, which is located about four kilometers from Pythagorio on the island. Flights leave fairly regularly from the Athens airport. You can also take a ferry to the island, and Samos is known as being a popular stop for cruises. The fastest way to get to the island, however, is to take a flight. Once you land at the airport, you can take a taxi, bus, or rent a car so that you can get to your hotel.

Relax at Potami Beach

Before visiting the waterfall, you may want to spend some time lounging at the beach. There’s a lot to love about the beach. The water is a crystal, clear blue and it’s always warm. People also report that there are plenty of beachside cafes and other facilities near the beach but somehow, this doesn’t make the beach feel crowded with tourists. Rather, this is a great spot to soak up the sun that doesn’t get oppressively busy. So many people spend most of their time here, however, without realizing that the waterfalls are nearby.

Spend Time at the Waterfalls

Once you are done relaxing at the beach, it’s time to have a change of scenery! Located nearby, the Potami waterfalls are a stunning example of just how much nature can actually change. All you need to do is follow the river a short way until you reach the first falls. There are two more sets of waterfalls, but those require a bit more of a walk. If you know that you want to walk to see both of these falls, you should make sure that you are prepared with water, supplies, and the proper footwear. Although the trail isn’t difficult, it can be hard on your body and your feet if you don’t have the right clothes and shoes for the job.

As you can see, there is more to Greece’s natural environment than just its beaches. In fact, if you step almost immediately outside of beaches like Potami, you will find other great wonders, such as Potami Waterfalls.
