Beautiful Scenic Beaches Of Greek Island,Milos Island.Milos is one of those unique islands that is at least partially defined by its volcanic activity. The main portion of the island loops around the caldera and gives the island both a peaceful and unsettling feel. It is part of the same volcanic arc as the island of Santorini, and like that volcano, Milos is also dormant. Although it has been some time since it’s erupted, the fact that it could still erupt gives the island an unsettling feelings. Still, all this volcanic activity means that the beaches are some of the most beautiful in all of Greece. Here’s a list of some of the best beaches to visit:

Sarakiniko

If you only have time to visit one beach on Milos, Sarakiniko is it. This is the most famous and most often photographed beach on all of the island. Here, the water is a deep blue and the dark volcanic rocks that surround the beach offer a nice contrast between the water and the sun. When you visit, don’t forget to bring your camera! Since this beach is so popular, it is also extremely bush, which means that you may want to hold off visiting the island for some of the off-peak times, such as in May or September.

Kleftiko

One of the best things about Kleftiko Beach is the fact that it can’t be accessible by car or bus. The only way to reach it is to take a boat from Adamas. This means that once you do arrive, you’ll be treated to some amazing, unspoiled views. Make sure you check the boat schedule before you depart so that you don’t miss the last one!

Tsagrado

Do you want to avoid some of the bigger crowds on the island? If so, then Tsagrado Beach is the place to be! This beach is secluded and as a result of that, there are actually no organized services. However, you can easily enjoy your time here as long as you bring enough food and water for the whole day. Spending time here is worth it – it’s very picturesque!

Friplaka

Friplaka is a relaxing beach that also has some great views. However, there is no sand here, only pebbles, so you won’t want to forget your shoes. There are some basic facilities here but it is still relatively quiet. This is the perfect escape for those who want a nice beach day without all the hassle.

Paleochori

Many of the beaches on Milos are relatively quiet and some are even completely secluded. If you want a beach that has a little bit more of a bustle, Paleochori Beach is the place to be! There are many resorts located here, so if you want to spend most of your time on the island at the beach, finding a resort in this area could be worth your while.

Although Milos is a fairly popular island, it is on the smaller side, which means that it doesn’t get the same crowds as some of the others. This means that no matter what time of year you go, you won’t feel as if the crowds are too much to handle.

The Venetians grew cotton, barley, wheat, fruits, and raised goats and sheep. They even dig mines at the hills and mountains nearby. The Castle of Milos protected the area from pirate invasions and could control the movement of ships throughout the Bay of Adamandas. Milos Greek island is one of those picture perfect places and there is no shortage of these places in Greece. There is so much to see and do here, but one thing you should prioritize is enjoying its natural beauty. Kleftiko Caves, also called Bandit’s Lair, was once a famous pirate hideaway. The pirates may have left, but the caves are still standing! Here’s what you should know about them:

About Kleftiko Caves on Milos

Milos is the southwestern-most isles in the Cyclades, a cluster of islands off Greece’s coast known for their natural beauty. The landmass is a 58-square-mile, horseshoe-shaped volcanic island in the Aegean Sea.The caves in Milos are off the coastline of Kleftiko Beach. It’s main claim to fame is that several famous sculptures — including the Venus de Milo, Asclepius of Milos, and several statues of the Greek gods — were found on the island, though they’re now scattered in museums around the world.

Summertime is the most active time on Milos. Visitors from around Greece and Europe use their holiday time to escape to resort towns on the Mediterranean. But even in the cold months, December through March, the mercury rarely dips below 50 degrees Fahrenheit, so off-season travelers can also enjoy Milos’ caves if they’re willing to brave a bit of breezy autumn weather. Some folks even prefer going during the winter.

What to Do at Kleftiko Caves on Milos

The caves at Kleftiko are awash in wonder. For starters, the bright-blue waters are something out of a doctored travel agency photo. Plus, the cave walls have a natural pearlescent shimmer to them. So if you enjoy nature photography, Fleftiko’s caves will be a playground.

There’s also a lot going on underneath the crystalline waters. Schools of colorful fish torpedo around, and it’s like being at an aquarium — so don’t forget to bring your snorkeling gear! Swimmers also enjoy lapping in the surrounding waters and throughout the caves. There are even swim tours for those who want to do something different!

If you’re not keen to get into the sea, that’s all right! Many people have a great time simply renting a boat and spending their time on deck soaking in the sun.

Getting to Kleftiko Caves

Exceptionally strong swimmers can, technically, reach the caves if they start on Kleftiko Beach, but it’s not advised. The overwhelming majority of people arrive by boat because getting to the beach from which you can swim is exceptionally difficult to navigate by land due to jagged terrain.

The caves at Kleftiko are a must-see natural attraction for those visiting Milos, and there are plenty of tour companies that organize daily trips to the spot. Find one that works best for you, or, if you have a boating license, venture there on your own!

While on the island of Milos, there is a lot to do. Kleftiko Caves are well worth a visit, and there are multiple ways you can choose to experience them. Block out at least a few hours for your visit here.

Milos is a volcanic island that has a rich landscape. It’s one of those places that people flock to in order to enjoy the peaceful, quiet side of Greece. However, don’t let the size of the island fool you. For holiday goers, there’s plenty of things to do. One of the highlights, however, will be exploring the many picturesque villages that are found throughout the island. Here is a look at some of the best choices:

Plaka

Plaka is a village located on the Northern portion of the island. It’s on the small side but it’s right on the coast and visiting here makes for a pleasant outing. There are some beaches nearby that are also worth exploring. Pay attention to the traditional architecture and be sure to eat a traditional meal in one of the restaurants. You’ll also want to enjoy the beautiful views of the Gulf of Milos while here. Plaka is also the island’s capital, which means that you won’t run out of things to do here. It is also a great place to get a hotel while on the island.

Kastro

The interesting thing about Kastro is that it is actually only 500 meters from Plaka. Currently, Kastro is actually part of Plaka, but it is considered to be the old quarter. Since it has a distinct look and feel from Plaka as a whole, it is usually grouped together. This is a charming place to visit and a chance to view a different part of the island without venturing far away from Plaka.

Klima

Klima is another village that is worth visiting. Located about 4 kilometers to the south of Plaka, this village’s main draw is that it is a traditional fishing village and will give you a chance to explore the quiet and relaxed side of Greece. Spend time here walking the streets and enjoying the view. Be sure to obverse Greek traditional life while here, as well.

Pollonia

This is another one of those villages that’s an easy distance from Plaka. At twelve kilometers away, Pollonia is also on the coast. Like Klima, it is also a fishing village. However, unlike Klima, Pollonia has been developed into a resort for tourists. Still, it isn’t built up too badly and the village is still peaceful and charming. The tourist presence here is a positive thing because it’s fairly easy to find a place to stay and there are plenty of things to do.

Adamas

If you opt to take a ferry to the island of Milos, Adamas is likely where you will end up since it is the main port on the island. It’s also only 4 kilometers from Plaka, which means that you could easily explore both while visiting the island. This is a busy port, but not as busy as some of the major ports in Greece. It also has a reputation as being a safe zone for people who come to the island. After all, it was founded in the early 1800’s by refugees who came from a nearby island.

There is so much to do on Milos, you certainly can’t go wrong by exploring any one of these villages!

Milos is one of those islands that can only accurately be described as surreal. This island has a long history of volcanic activity and this is reflected in its landscape, particularly on its beaches. This is something that has enchanted inhabitants and visitors for centuries. However, there are other reasons to visit this island besides that, including the Christian Catacombs. Here’s more information about the Catacombs of Milos, which is a site you won’t want to miss:

Getting to Milos Island

Before you can visit the Catacombs, you must first make your way to the island of Milos. If you’re headed to Milos from Athens, it’s especially simple. You can either take a flight from the Athens airport or a ferry from the port of Piraeus, which is a short drive from Athens. Once you arrive at Milos, you’ll want to find your hotel and see some of the sites. Just be sure to plan some time to visit the catacombs before your stay is finished since this is a nice example of an early Christian burial place.

Visiting the Catacombs

Once you do arrive on Milos and you do want to check out the catacombs, you can either head there in a rental car, taxi, or by taking the bus. Just take the bus to Trypiti and get off at the T-junction. Follow the signs to the catacombs. These are actually the only Christian catacombs that are located in Greece, which is one of the reasons why it’s one of those places you absolutely need to visit.

The trek to the catacombs can be slightly strenuous if you are headed there on a walk from the main town, especially during the warmest part of the day. No matter how you arrive here, you’ll want to bring plenty of water just in case it’s hot. In order to really get the most of it, you will want to find a guide who will take you through the catacombs and explain to you exactly what the place is all about.

Once you arrive, you’ll see what the catacombs are all about. These were located near modern-day Trypiti by the ancient agora, which is why it’s a bit of a hike from the main town, since agora marketplaces are usually set on a bit of a hill. It is also close to the ancient theater of Milos, which is also another site that is worth spending time at. Used as family burial chambers in early Christian times, visiting this place is a humbling and historic experience. It’s also pretty neat to see this early cemetery in person.

Sure, there are plenty of things you can do on the island of Milos. Although you can certainly spend most of your time at the beach, eating in restaurants, and shopping, the catacombs are worth visiting at least once.

Milos is a volcanic island that has a truly unique geography. This island itself curves around the caldera of the volcano and is defined by its breathtaking and often colorful rock formations. Most of these formations are concentrated on the coastal areas on the island, and nowhere is this more prevalent than on Sarakiniko Beach, which is one of the most popular beaches on the island of Milos. Here’s more information about visiting this beautiful beach:

Getting to Sarakiniko Beach

Milos island is one of those places that is completely worth a visit, but it is tucked just a bit off the beaten track. However, it does have an airport so it is possible to take a flight from the Athens airport in order to get here. It is also possible to take a ferry either from Piraeus or from some of the other islands near it. Since Milos is in the Cyclades, it is accessible from other Cycladic islands such as Santorini or Mykonos. The trip from these islands isn’t far, which means that it is also possible to visit this island as a day trip. However, there is so much to see here, you might want to stay more than one day.

Once you find yourself on the island, you’ll want to visit the beach early on in your trip so that you can have a chance to return more than once! The beach itself is located on a coastal road that is situated northeast of Adamas and east of Milos Town. If you rent a car it will be fairly easy to get here from anywhere on the island. It is also possible to take a bus or taxi.

What Sarakiniko Beach is Like

Although most of the beaches on Milos are unique and have gorgeous rock formations, many consider Sarakiniko Beach to be one of the most spectacular. On of the most enchanting things about this beach are its many rock formations, some of which are multi-colored. There are both horizontal and vertical rock formations that can be found throughout the length of the beach. The rocks have eroded through the centuries, which is why they have been formed in such unique shapes.

Between the rock formations, visitors can stretch out on the sand in a chair or rest on a towel, but the rocks are there to gaze at and enjoy throughout the day. Besides relaxing at this beach, it is also an ideal spot for sunset because the rocks seem to light up with spectacular colors during the setting sun. While here, you also won’t want to forget your camera. Because this beach is so stunning, it is actually the most photographed spot on the island, especially during sunset.

Once you’re done lounging on the beach, you can see some of the other sites on the island, such as the site of the Venus de Milo statue that is now being housed at the Louvre in Paris, France. That particular sculpture originated on the island of Milos.
