Agistri is a small island with beautiful beaches. The Mariza beach has plenty of swimming and bathing opportunities, which will make your trip worthwhile. Agistri has plenty to offer, but when you want a unique beach experience, you shouldn’t fail to stop by the Mariza beach. Here is more about the spectacular beach as some of the things you can do there.

About Mariza Beach

Mariza Beach is situated at the port of Limenaria. It is five kilometers west of the capital of Agistri, Megalochori. It’s at the end of a track running from the Limenaria village. It’s an ideal location to visit if you are on a trip to Agistri. The beach is surrounded by sheer rock faces. It dictates the geography of this part of the island. It’s more of a concrete platform you can use to jump into the blue water than a beach. But there is still plenty you can do when you visit the location.

What to Do at Mariza Beach

If you want to jump off a cliff into the waters, Mariza Beach has many spots to do so. The rocks surrounding the beach have created enough cliffs. Nothing beats jumping off and swimming at the tiny rocky cove. It’s hard finding crystal clean water and a quest place to enjoy some away time. But Mariza has all that with beautiful views. The sea bed is very deep; spending time there will help you interact with the varied wildlife.

There is no sandy beach, but you will find a flat and a small sunbathing area. The area is partly made of concrete; you can enjoy a comfortable sunbath. Be sure to go early in the morning or before 2 o’clock because that is when the sea gets a little rough. Take your safety measures seriously, especially when you are touring alone. However, you can stay around the area up to the evening to enjoy the sunset and the beautiful scenery.

Mariza still harbors the sixties atmosphere, and the natural surrounding is always flourishing. You can also explore Limenaria village. The footpath down to the beach is also an amazing nature walk. There are no stalls around the Mariza beach; if you plan to enjoy the clear waters for hours, you should carry snacks. There are other beaches in Agistri you can explore before your trip is up. It’s a magical place to tour if you want to explore nature.

Getting to Mariza Beach

Agistri has only five villages because it’s a small island with few inhabitants. Locating Mariza Beach will not be a hard task. If you are coming from Megalochori, keep to the left up to Limenaria. From there you will get to the beach via a footpath. Once you get to the village, you can walk comfortably to the cliffs. Feel free to ask for directions if you can’t locate the footpaths. If you are planning to spend some time in the area, try to find accommodation nearby.

Visit Mariza beach if you have a lifelong dream of jumping off a cliff into beautiful clear water. You can also enjoy a swim in the deep sea bed or sunbathe. There is so much to do around the beach as well. Exploring Agistri is worth it, especially if you find your way to Limenaria.

  • Church of Saint Efthimios – This Orthodox church dates back to 1775. It houses some beautiful Byzantine murals inside its walls and an iconostasis from 1625 AD depicting Christ’s crucifixion scene and other scenes painted by Yiannis Kontaris.
  • Church of Saint Nicolas – This church is the only one that has remained fully intact since its establishment in 1800 AD and contains some beautiful frescoes, icons, and religious artifacts inside.
  • Megalochori Folklore Museum – Learn more about traditional Greek culture at this small museum which showcases various costumes worn by island women throughout history and many other items used for different chores or celebrations. The building was originally a schoolhouse but later became home to Megalochora’s folklore collection after it ceased use as an educational facility!

VisitAgistri Island may be small, but it is packed with gems in the unpopulated hills. There are plenty of beaches on the island with unbelievably clear water, and Aponisos is one of them. If you come from a busy city, you will appreciate the peace and quiet surrounding the whole area. There are not many tourists; the beach is less crowded. Sailors enjoy their trip to Agistri Island because of the never-ending blue waters. Before you go to Aponisos Beach, here is what you need to know.

About Aponisos Beach

Aponisos Beach is located southwest of Agistri Island, after passing through Limenaria village. Like most beaches on the island, it’s surrounded by rock features and pine trees. The pin trees stop down the beach on a flat rock where many boats anchor. But the main attraction is the clear waters. The unique color combination at the beach will remind you of an exotic place. If you happen to stumble upon the exotic beach, take a day and enjoy everything it happens to offer. Most of the travelers that visit the beach agree that it’s a hidden gem.

What to Do at Aponisos Beach

Sunbathing and swimming are the top activities to do when you get to Aponisos beach. It’s a private beach; you will pay five euros to spend the day. But the breath-taking beauty is worth every penny. You will get access to sunbeds that are close to the water and shade from the sun. The bathing area on the ricks has steps and ladders down to the waters. There is a fish tavern at the beach that serves fresh, delicious fish every day. Their services are exceptional.

You can enjoy a drink while you watch the sunset over the neighboring islands. If you get a tube or air mattress, you can drift on the water, but be careful not to drift too far from the beach. Occasionally yachts will anchor there for the passengers to take a dive. A fish dish after a bath or swim sounds very appealing. The beach is very organized, and it has deck chairs and sea sports, but you will have to find accommodation somewhere else.

Do not forget to pack your snorkeling gear because there is plenty of wildlife at the beach. Take advantage of this time to get close to some of the sea animals. If you make the most out of your day, you will walk out of there feeling content and excited. The edges are quite rocky; you have to be careful when navigating the waters.

Getting to Aponisos Beach

Aponisos is accessed via bus or car on the southern part of the island. If you are taking the bus, you will have to know the timetable to avoid inconveniences. If you are visiting for leisure, pick up a cheap rental car near Aponisos Beach and drive yourself. You will see a lot more things without limitations.

Aponisos Beach is one of the most exotic in Agistri. When you reach the beach, enjoy the fish delicacies at the tavern when taking a break from the water. Walk around and explore the rocky ages, and if you still have time, try snorkeling.
