The beautiful island of Agistri, Greece is the ideal vacation spot for nature lovers. Agistri boasts olive trees and pine trees. The beautiful beaches with their turquoise waters are perfect for an afternoon of relaxation. There are small coves scattered around the island. The traditional villages of Agistri are home to whitewashed houses and courtyards full of flowers. Agistri, Greece is also home to archaeological sites, churches, and places to try delicious food. Here’s what you can do when visiting Agistri Island.

Visit the Beaches

It’s no surprise that the beaches of Agistri Island are beautiful. One of the popular beaches on the island is Skala Beach. Skala Beach is just 2 km east of Megalochori, making it a convenient beach to visit. Thanks to its location, the beach is close to amenities including seaside cafes, tavernas, and hotels. Skala Beach is family friendly and partly organized. Other beaches on the island of Agistri include: Dragonera Beach located 3 km southwest of Megalochori, Aponissos Beach located 8 km southwest of Megalochori, and Mariza Beach. Mariza Beach is 5 km south of Megalochori. It is a secluded and non-organized beach.

Spend Time at the Capital

Megalochori, or Mylos, is the capital of Agistri Island. Megalochori is located on the northern side of the island. Here you will find charming cobblestone streets and stone houses. There is a windmill that adds to the beauty of the capital. The sandy beaches with turquoise waters shouldn’t be missed. If you visit the Chirch of Agioi Pantes, you will be treated to amazing views from where it sits on a hill of the capital village of Megalochori.

You will experience wonderful food and drink in Megalo. Coffee lovers looking for breakfast can stop into Alter Ego, a delicious spot that serves waffles and crepes. You’ll find places to enjoy seafood, Greek cuisine, and cocktails around the village. Don’t forget to try the local specialities of Agistri that include fresh fish, olive oil, homemade pastas, and liquors.

Explore the History

Step back in time with a visit to the Ancient Town of Kadoudi, the old capital of the island of Agistri. Kadoudi means “old village.” When visiting this old settlement, you can explore what’s left of the village. A couple of chapels you will want to see are the Chapel of Agioi Pandes and the Chapel of Agioi Theodoroi. These chapels can be found within the pine woods. The Ancient Town of Kadoudi is just a 10 minute walk from Megalochori.

Enjoy Outdoor Sports

With all the natural beauty to be found around Agistri Island, you will want to experience it by enjoy some of the outdoor sports offered. A wonderful way to see the beauty of the island is with a horseback ride. This is a good family activity or it can make a romantic date. Other outdoor activities the island has to offer includes: bicycling, kayaking, sailing, and hiking.
