Don’t let the fact that Paros is a popular stopping point for boats, ferries, and ships fool you. It’s so much more than a hub of maritime activity and is worth much more than a passing glance. It’s also a wonderful place to spend some time and once you do, you’ll find it every bit as fun and relaxing as some of the more common tourist destinations. Here’s a list of things you won’t want to miss while here:

Spend Time in Parikia

Parikia is the main port on the island and it’s also the capital. Sure, it’s fairly bustling, thanks to the influx of ships that pass through here on a constant basis. However, once you spend time here, you’ll begin to see it as something more than just a place for shops. It’s also a very artistic and culturally thriving city and it offers plenty of things to do that will entice you to stick around. In addition to taking in the art scene, there’s also plenty of nightlife and shopping opportunities to make travelers happy. It has all the charm of a quaint Greek village, too. Spend some time walking through the streets, and be sure not to miss the Byzantine architecture, including an older church.

Go to the Beach

Being an island, there are no shortage of beaches on Paros that are worth exploring! Beaches such as Golden Beach, Santa Maria, and Pounda are popular favorites for locals and tourists alike. Most of these beaches are thriving and full of life, but are not as heavily trafficked as some of the beaches on the larger islands in Greece. You can easily spend the day at these beaches, relaxing and soaking up the Mediterranean sun.

Visit Lefkes Village

If you want to spend some time at an old Greek village, Lefkes is the place to be! Charming and quaint, this traditional town has plenty to offer its visitors. Set back from the water in the middle of the island, Lefkes, in a lot of ways, may appear frozen in time. Life moves at the same pace that it has for decades, and even though change does happen, it goes at a much slower pace. This is the place to be if you want to relaxing and enjoy some of the famous Greek hospitality!

Take a Boat Tour

When you’re through exploring the island by car or on foot, change things up a bit by taking a boat tour! There are a variety of boat tours you can take. Some show you the island’s sites on a guided tour through the water. Others have themes; such as dinner cruises or boat trips that feature live Greek bands. Since the sea is such a big part of the culture here, you can’t go wrong by spending some time on the water!

The Greek island of Paros is charming and quaint. Even though it can be busy, the island doesn’t see the same kinds of crowds as some of the more common ones.

Paros is one of those Greek islands that appears to be tucked out of the way. Although it is often glossed over in favor of other islands in Greece, this is one place that really shouldn’t be ignored. This is an elegant island filled with seaside villages and plenty of attractions to satisfy every interest. The beaches are top notch, as well, and are considered to be some of the best that Greece has to offer. Here’s a look at some of the best beaches in Paros that you won’t want to miss:

Golden Beach

Although Paros doesn’t get as busy as some of the other tourist destinations in Greece, there is a healthy bustle here during the peak season. Golden Beach is considered to be one of the most popular beaches on the island, which means that if you’re looking for an ample crowd, you won’t want to miss the chance to spend time here. Known as Chrissi Akti in Greek, this beach features a long stretch of golden sand, warm, crystal blue waters, and plenty of nearby services. If you’re into windsurfing, this is also the place to be. The conditions here are excellent for windsurfers and the Professional Windsurfing Wold Cup takes place every year here.

Kolymbithres Beach

If you’re not interested in windsurfing or if the windy conditions at Golden Beach are a turnoff, consider heading to Kolymbithres Beach, instead. Since the beach is flanked by large rocks, the winds here aren’t as intense as some of the other beaches on Paros. This is also a great place to enjoy the sand and relaxing ocean. You can rent sun beds and umbrellas here as well as enjoy some of the beachside bars and cafes. This beach is located near Naoussa, which is also a place you must visit while on Paros.

Santa Maria Beach

Are you looking for a quiet place to spend your day? If so, consider visiting Santa Maria Beach! Located in Naoussa on Plastira Bay, this beach has a calm quality about it. Not only does it not get as busy as Golden Beahc and Kolymbithres Beach, but the fact that it is on a bay gives it a sense of a tranquility that makes the whole area seem peaceful. However, it is a fairly organized beach, which means that there are sun beds and umbrellas to rent and some services nearby, such as restaurants. It’s also an ideal beach for scuba divers and snorkelers, and there is a dive school nearby that can help you get started. Overall, this beach has a lot of its own charm and character and is definitely worth a visit!

Parasporos Beach

If you’re looking for a relaxing beach that has a bit of a bustle, consider visiting Parasporos Beach. Located in a popular area just south of the town of Parikia, this beach does see some healthy crowds but still isn’t overwhelming. There are some beachside bars here as well as umbrellas and sun beds to rent.

While on the island of Paros, consider visiting one of these popular beaches!

Much of this history can be found in the monasteries of the island of Paros. When visiting Paros, Greece, you will want to visit some of these monasteries.

Monastery of Panagia Ekatodapyliani

Located a few meters from the port of Parikia in Paros, the Monastery of Panagia Ekatodapyliani is one of the most well-preserved Paleo-Christian monument in all of Greece. Throughout the centuries more renovations would be made leaving the monastery with Paleo-Christian, Byzantine, and post-Byzantine elements. Ekatodapyliani means “the church with the hundred doors.” Tradition says the monastery has 99 doors as well as a secret door that will open when the Church of Hagia Sofia becomes Orthodox again. Around the Monastery of Panagia Ekatodapyliani are three other chapels and cells for the monks.

Monastery of Logovarda

The Monastery of Logovarda is 5 km from the Parikia, the capital of Paros. The monastery was constructed in 1638 and is dedicated to Zoodohos Pighi, which means “the life-giving source.” The color of the monastery is the typical Cycladic white. There is also a hagiography workshop on site that is operated by the monks. As a male monastery, the Monastery of Logovarda is open to male visitors only who are properly dressed.

Monastery of Christos Dasous

Located close to the village of Sotires on the island of Paros is the Monastery of Christos Dasous. This female monastery was previously the residence of the Mavrogenis family. The family donated the it to the Monastery of Ekatodapyliani. In 1805, the Monastery of Christos Dasous housed the first monastic community. The church located in the courtyard of the monastery features a domed basilica with a double bell tower and an entrance with three-arched doors. When leaving the monastery down the asphalt road toward the sea, you will come across some beautiful beaches to relax and swim at.

Church of Agia Triada

The Church of Agia Triada is located in the mountainous village of Lefkes in Paros. The church is a Byzantine temple that features unique architecture. The Church of Agia Triada is the second largest on the island of Paros. Construction of the church was completed in 1835. It is a basilica style church with three-aisles and wonderful arches. Paros is one of those pristine Greek islands that draws in visitors from all over the world. While not as popular as some of its neighbors, Paros is every bit as interesting and spectacular. When you’re not lounging on one of its gorgeous beaches, you should consider seeing some of the sites!

The Archaeological Museum of Paros is one of those places. Founded in 1960, the mission of this museum is to house important artifacts, many of which originated on the island. This is a great place to learn about some of the history of not only the island, but of Greece as a whole.

This museum also gives you the chance to go back in time. Through the sculptures, small items, and architectural pieces, you get an idea of how this area looked during its heyday as one of Europe’s greatest civilizations. When you visit, you will notice that the museum is broken up into several halls. Each hall has different exhibits to enjoy. Here’s more information about them:

Hall A

Hall A is where the Archaic and Classical sculptures from various artists are housed. The most impressive of these is figure of Gorgon, a mythical monster. Made in marble, the completely preserved structure dates back to the sixth century BC.

Another important sculpture you’ll find in Hall A is one of Nike, the Greek goddess of speed and strength. Dating back to 470 BC, the marble figure is missing its head and arms. Yet, it shows the level of craftsmanship during that period of time.

Hall B

Hall B is made up of smaller findings during excavations. The miniature pottery and sculptures in this hall are from various eras. These include Neolithic, Early Cycladic, Mycenaean, Geometric, Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic, and Roman periods. All the items are displayed in glass cases or plinths for easy viewing of the pieces and their information.

The Courtyard

The Courtyard is the area where the Paros Archaeological Museum presents its architectural items. Featured here are building pieces, urns, and fragments of classical Roman mosaic floors. While looking, you may find inscribed columns and memorial plaques dating back thousands of years.

The Atrium

The Atrium is also an important part of the museum. Because it is next to Panagia Ekatontapiliani, the museum works with restoration experts to display items found during renovations. For instance, mosaics discovered in the church are shown in the museum’s atrium. Some of these date back to building’s origins, which was approximately in the 4th century AD.

Although the museum isn’t large, it is still worth a visit because it is packed with historical artifacts, many of which are from the island itself. Before you go, you should check the hours of operation. It is typically closed on Mondays, so you’ll want to plan around these limitations. You can easily access the museum by taxi, rental car, or even the island’s public transportation system.

Each year, millions of people flock to Greece in order to enjoy what the country has to offer. There are some destinations that seem to get the majority of the people, but that doesn’t mean that the other places in Greece should be forgotten. The island of Paros is one of those places. It’s tucked slightly off the beaten track, but it still does attract some travelers.

Paros is a unique island for many reasons. First of all, it is part of the Cycladic island group alongside Mykonos and Santorini. The architecture, traditions, and culture on Paros has similarities to the other islands in the Cyclades. It is also a modernized island with all the conveniences of modern life. Visitors are able to spend some time relaxing on an island that maintains its traditional appeal while also modernizing with the times.

One of the things that people love to do here is visit the beach. Monastiri Beach is one of the best the island has to offer. Here’s more information about it:

Getting to Monastiri Beach

Before you can lounge on the beach, you need to first make your way to the island. There is an airport here, which means that you can easily find a flight to the island. However, since the island is on the smaller side, you may have some limited choices. You’ll likely want to book your plane ticket in advance to avoid the extra expenses associated with last minute travel. You can also easily take a ferry to the island from major ports in Greece, such as Piraeus. Check the ferry schedules carefully so you can plan your trip.

About Monastiri Beach

Monastiri Beach is located in a pretty area of the island and is near another popular beach called Kolimbithres. The charm of Monastiri Beach lies int he fact that it is located in a rocky area, which means that the beach itself can feel somewhat secluded. This helps enhance its beauty because it discourages large crowds from flocking here. However, there are enough people here to make the beach feel calm and relaxing.

The beach itself is located at Agios Ioannis Bay, which means that the waters are somewhat calm and also on the warm side because of the way the sun’s rays hit the water. There is a monastery nearby and this can be glimpsed from the beach itself. If you have some extra time in your day, the monastery might be worth the visit (as long as you have the proper attire).

What to Do at Monastiri Beach

Locals and tourists alike enjoy lounging on this beach. The water is warm and the shore is excellent for relaxing. Because of the calmness and depth of the water, this beach is also ideal for snorkeling. If you love to glimpse life underneath the surface, you should rent some snorkeling equipment so that you can enjoy this pastime. This is also a great beach that attracts yachts and sailboats. People love mooring here because the bay and beach are both so beautiful. It is also an organized beach that has some nearby services, as well as loungers to rent.

While visiting Paros island, you should consider spending some time at Monastiri Beach.

Paros is one of those gorgeous Greek islands that seems to be a bit off the radar. There are also ferries that you can take to Paros from other islands in Greece, such as Santorini and Mykonos. Once you get to the island, you will want to then find your way to the Old Port of Naoussa once you want to spend time there.

About the Village of Naoussa

Naoussa is an old fishing village located in the northern part of the island. It is a fairly quiet and peaceful place where the locals tend to enjoy their daily life. While here, you will notice that there are some tourists exploring the place, but since Naoussa is off the beaten track, the numbers won’t be overwhelming. This village is filled with restaurants, cafes, and boutiques to explore. It is also a nice place where you can spend time by the water.  One of the main attractions in Naoussa is to spend time over by the old port.

What to Do at the Old Port of Naoussa

Whether you’re staying in or near Naoussa or not, it is worth your while to head over to the Old Port area. Although this was once one of the main ports on the island, this is no longer the case. Instead, this area will give you the perfect chance to spend time by the water in a peaceful and relaxed setting. There are some restaurants here by the water, and eating a meal here will be one of the highlights. Try to get a table by the water if you can, it will make your time here even better. You’ll want to drive to the Old Port from Naoussa unless you’re up for a long walk. However, once you get here, you will be treated to a great experience. This is a place where you can see what island life is really like.

While on the island of Paros, you’ll want to spend time in the Old Port of Naoussa.

Today, we’re going to be talking about Parikia, the capital of the Greek island of Paros, which is one of the most frequented tourist destinations on the entire island.

The best part about Parikia is that it’s not just one particular aspect that makes it a popular travel spot. One of the many reasons that people choose to visit Parikia is for the excellent restaurants that line the coast. Take your pick and you won’t be disappointed! You’ll enjoy the food almost as much as you’ll enjoy the view of the breathtaking coastline.

Parikia is also known for its amazing nightlife. You haven’t experienced nightlife in Parikia until you’ve planned a night out at Entropy Bar. This is definitely the place to go if you’re looking for a wild party environment. They know how to have a great night at Entropy Bar! The owners are known for being both great and accommodating, providing a wide range of music, excellent drinks and fantastic service.

But you’ll have some options when it comes to nightlife in Parikia. A personal favorite of mine is Pirate Bar Paros. This bar does an excellent job of creating a pirate theme in a relatively small space. Pirate Bar Paros gives you that neighborhood, hole in the wall kind of bar feel, which is always nice. Their cocktail menu is top notch, and you’ll often be able to hear live music played there.

One last suggestion is to check out Booze ‘n’ Tales Bar. What it lacks in size, it makes up for in personality. The owner of the bar is very personable, loves to entertain his guests and provides quite a cozy atmosphere both inside and in the outside seating area. Booze ‘n’ Tales Bar patrons are always raving about how great the music is at this bar, yet it’s not too loud to where you won’t be able to enjoy a nice conversation. You’ll immediately fall in love with the idea of relaxing with a great drink, while you listen to the waves crash on the beach in the background.

While Parikia might be known for their nightlife and coastline restaurants, perhaps the most notable sight to see is the Panayia Ekatondapiliani Cathedral. The name Panayia Ekatondapiliani Cathedral means the church with “a hundred doors”. This wonderfully preserved 4th century church really is a trip back in time, as it is now a museum that you can venture throughout. It is well worth your time to make a visit.

Of course, being the main port of Paros island, you have to figure that Parikia has to have great beaches, right? That assumption would be correct, as Martselo Beach is absolutely gorgeous. Some areas along the coast are a little rocky, but most of the areas are perfect for swimming and snorkeling in the crystal clear water. This beach is also really well organized, and has plenty of areas for visitors to sit and relax under a canopy or a beach umbrella. Your other beach option is Krios Beach, which is a nice, quiet beach with golden sands. It’s in walking distance of plenty of restaurants, and is known for being a really clean and peaceful beach that is easy to access via car or on foot.

Paros is one of the most unique islands in all of Greece. There are so many spots throughout the island to enjoy, it can be overwhelming. Naoussa is one of those villages that is worth a visit. Here are some things you can do while there:

Enjoy the Outdoors

Naoussa is known for its parks, but there is much more to Naoussa than just parks. There is a beautiful area in Naoussa that almost reminds me a little bit of Paros, and it’s called the Old Port of Naoussa. You can sit at a table right next to the water and eat some of the finest Greek seafood that Port of Naoussa, Paros island , Greeceyou will ever have, at several different restaurants. The outdoor atmosphere is breathtaking, especially if you happen to catch the sunset during dinner time. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in this area, all with freshest fish around. Overall, this is just a great area to just walk around and enjoy the scenery.

Take a Boat Cruise

But if seeing that sunset from land isn’t good enough for you — which I would advise not to be satisfied with just that view — then you need to take a cruise with Michael Zeppos’ Cruise Boat Day Tours. The boat that you will be traveling on is a really nice fishing boat that has been completely renovated to ensure both the safety and comfort of its passengers. All kinds of food is available to the guests, including a prepared lunch that is fantastic. Sit out on the deck and get a tan, dive in the water to cool off, go snorkeling, see all the amazing sites that there are to see in the area, enjoy a breathtaking sunset with nothing around you but the sea, but most importantly, have an incredibly relaxing experience.

Take Sailing Lessons

Have you ever wanted to learn how to sail, but you just never had the time or the opportunity? Well, now you do! At Dinghy Sailing School, your level of experience does not matter. From rookies looking to take up a new hobby, to seasoned veterans looking to improve their skills, this school is both safe and professional with the goal in mind to make you the best sailor you can possibly be. The instructors also do a really great job when they’re working with kids. It’s a great experience, and it’s the perfect activity if you have some time to kill.

Take a Cooking Class

I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve heard the excuse, “Well, I’d cook if I knew how!” It seems a little unorthodox to take up a cooking class when you’re back home, going about your normal everyday life. How about taking up a cooking class while you’re on vacation? If this is something you would be interested in, then you have to check out Cooking Class at Margarita Studios. They have gotten really great reviews, and for good reason. You will learn how to cook several dishes, using ingredients that have been handed down several generations.

Tour a Winery

Naoussa also has a ton of orchards in or around the city, featuring all different kinds of fruits. And as you can probably imagine, the large quantity of orchards means that there are plenty of wineries around. The winery that we suggest you take a trip to see is Moraitis Winery. This winery offers a nice little tour of the winery, a free wine sampling, and the opportunity to purchase their wines at a discounted rate from what you’d be able to buy them for in stores. These are all things you can look forward to when visiting Naoussa in Paros!
