It is a celebratory time when chestnuts are in season in Greece. This sweet chestnuts dessert recipe is just one of the ways they are commonly made.

Greek Style Sweet Chestnuts (Kastana Glykisma) Recipe Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup Greek honey
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 pounds chestnuts, roasted, shelled, and skinned

How to Prepare Greek Style Sweet Chestnuts:

Stir together the sugar, vanilla extract, honey, water, and cinnamon into a heavy saucepan.

Set the heat to medium low and let the ingredients dissolve together.

Add the chestnuts and gently roll them into the sweet mixture, being careful to keep the chestnuts intact.

Remove the chestnuts from the sweet mixture using a slotted spoon and let them cool on sheets of waxed or parchment paper.
