There is no one recipe for country bread throughout Greece. Rather, there are variations depending on the region of Greece, the ingredients that are on hand, and the individual preparing. This country bread with feta cheese and sesame seeds is one of those variations.

  • 1 recipe Greek country bread
  • 1 1/2 cups crumbled feta cheese
  • 1 large egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/2 cup sesame seeds

How to Make Country Bread With Feta Cheese:

Prepare the Greek country bread according to the recipe. Let the dough rise as usual. Punch down the dough and kneed in the feta cheese. Form into two round loaf shapes and place on a greased baking sheet. Let rise until double.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Brush the loaves with the egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Use 1/4 cup seeds for each loaf. Bake until the loaves are a light golden brown. This should take 30-40 minutes but check it frequently after 20 minutes.
