The Chelmsford Center for the Arts presents:  A Greek Musical Odyssey with Soprano Julie Ziavras on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7:00 pm

A GREEK MUSICAL ODYSSEY
Soprano Julie Ziavras sings a collection of classic Greek popular songs; capturing the lyric expression and the rich, deep texture of the Greek spirit and culture, with songs by prominent Greek songwriters, rembetika (the Greek blues) and traditional works.  She is accompanied by an ensemble led by Greek pianist/composer Spiros Cardamis with Kostas Psarros, bouzouki and George Maniatis, percussion.

The program will include a variety of Greek songs and ballads ranging from the plaintive to the rhythmic, with works by renowned Greek composers including Hadjidakis, Theodorakis, Tsitsanis rembetika (the classic Greek blues songs) and traditional folk songs. Acclaimed Greek-American soprano Julie Ziavras has performed in concert, on radio and TV in the US, Greece and abroad in a repertory ranging from Greek music and international ballads to opera and folk.  She has performed at Carnegie recital hall, Lincoln Center’s Bruno Walter Hall and was invited to Greece by Manos Hadjidakis to appear on Greek National Radio (ERT) and at the National Theatre in Piraeus.  She has toured internationally representing Greece in international festivals and performing selections from her solo CDs. An accomplished singer with a warm and compelling voice, she is classically trained with bachelor and masters degrees from the Manhattan School of Music. Visit her at www.JulieZiavras.com.

Ms Ziavras is accompanied by the renowned Greek composer and pianist Spiros Cardamis with whom she has a long standing musical collaboration including performances and recordings.  Born in Greece to a musical family, he is considered a preeminent expert in the Greek popular music and his original compositions are a unique fusion of classical and Greek music with a New Age attitude. His vocalize entitled New Millennium, which was written for Julie’s voice and featured on MP3, was in the number one spot in the opera category for three months and is now in their “Hall of Fame.
