Written by in , Comments Off on Greek Style Fig Spoon Sweet

Spoon sweets are a traditional Greek sweet that was originally used as a way to preserve the harvest. Choose only the freshest figs available for this dish.

Greek Style Fig Spoon Sweet (Sika Glyko) Recipe Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh figs, peeled and cut into wedges
  • Juice of one lemon
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

How to Prepare Fig Spoon Sweet (Sika):

You will need about 4, 1/2 pint jars for this recipe. Make sure they are cleaned and sterilized before you get started.

Add the figs, and lemon juice, and sugar in a heavy saucepan and set the heat to medium-low. Bring the mixture to a boil. Once it boils, set the heat to low and simmer it for twenty minutes. Mixture should continue to bubble. If it isn’t raise the heat slightly until it does.

Once it has simmered for twenty minutes, pour the mixture into the 1/2 pint jars, cover, and store in the refrigerator until ready to use.
