Lounge at Columbo Beach on Santorini

Written by in , Comments Off on Lounge at Columbo Beach on Santorini

Santorini is an island that has drawn people in for centuries. .If you are looking for a secluded, unspoiled beach to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the Mediterranean, then you need to make your way to Columbo Beach on the Greek island of Santorini. Situated on Santorini’s northeast coastline, Colombu Beach boasts warm waters, underwater formations, and a reputation for being nudist-friendly. But before you go, here’s what you should know about visiting Columbo Beach:

Getting to Columbo Beach

If you are traveling to Santorini from Corfu, you can either make a short trip out of it with a four-hour flight or enjoy the scenery via a mixture of driving on the mainland and ferries between the isles.

Whether you land by ferry on the west side of the island or by plane on the east side, once on Santorini you will need to head west to get to Columbo Beach. This beach is located about 12 kilometers northeast of Fira, Santorini’s capital, and 4 kilometers east of Oia. Unfortunately, there are no bus routes to the beach and it can be hard to leave by cab so your best bet is to rent either a car or motorbike to access this area of the island. You’ll see a cut out at Columbo Point where you can park your vehicle and a narrow pathway that winds down to the beach itself. Because this is a remote area of Santorini, be sure to bring your own food and water for the day.

About Columbo Beach

Columbo Beach lies off of Columbo Cape which boasts Santorini’s largest active crater 500 meters beneath the sea’s surface. This active crater lends to the local waters being particularly warm and an ideal place during cooler times. Also underwater near Columbo Beach is Seal Cave, a natural cave just to the right of the beach where seals can often be seen lazing about.
The beach itself is covered in dark gray sand and tiny pebbles and is surrounded by high cliff walls (note that heavy winds can cause rocks to fall so avoid sitting or lying directly underneath rock walls).

What to Do at Columbo Beach

As you can see, Columbo Beach is great for people of all ages. There are a lot of things that people enjoy doing while thee, such as swim in the warm water, go snorkeling or scuba diving, exploring the caves, soaking up the sun, and taking great amazing photographs of the scenery. The isolation of Columbo Beach combined with its warm waters has made it a popular Santorini destination for sunbathers, nudists, and other visitors wishing for some privacy and quiet beach time away from more bustling tourist areas.

Columbo Beach is a great destination for anyone looking for some time to themselves or with their traveling companions. The dramatic red cliffs and brilliant blue waters make for some ideal photo opportunities and the warm water beckons to both nudists and bathing suit lovers. However, understand this is a remote area and there are currently no nearby restaurants or shops so be sure to pack and bring enough refreshments and other items to keep you and your companions comfortable during your time to this beautiful part of Santorini.
