What to Do in Mykonos When You’re Not Partying

Written by in , Comments Off on What to Do in Mykonos When You’re Not Partying

Little Venice, MykonosMykonos built its reputation on supporting the party lifestyle and attracting the jet-set crowd. As a playground to the wealthy, this island has made a name for itself. While it’s true that some of the best parties and clubs do happen on this island, that’s not all there is. In fact, more and more travelers are visiting the island in search of something else – a chance to relax and experience the Greek culture. Here are some of the best things to do on the island that don’t have anything to do with its nightlife:

Visit the Ancient Site of Delos

Delos is one of the most wellknown archaeological sites in all of Greece. In fact, this is more than just a simple dig site – it’s an experience! This is your opportunity to get a feel for what life was like back in ancient times. Walk along the narrow streets and imagine what it was like to walk through the streets back then. Enjoy the amazing views while learning about the site’s rich history. It’s easy to see why people refer to it as the Greek Pompeii!

Relax on the Beach

Sure, there are plenty of beaches that have seaside clubs and bars, but they aren’t all like that! Some of the beaches are known for being relaxing and family friendly. It’s possible to avoid the crowds – just stay away from the beaches that are known for their clubs and bars. Beaches such as Elias, Kalafatis, and Paraga Beaches are all good choices. Super Paradise is also a good choice. It’s popular, but has fewer clubs and restaurants and Paradise Beaches.

Take a Boat Ride

There’s also a long history of boating on Mykonos. Whether you want to go sailing, fishing, or take a boat tour, this is the island for you! Besides, what could be more relaxing than exploring the island from its coastal perspective? If you truly have an adventurous streak you can do something a little more physical, such as kayaking. You can also hire a guide to take you around the island in his boat. Sometimes, these individual tours can give you a much more personalized experience.

Eat Traditional Foods

Mykonos is a great island to experience the traditional cuisine on Greece. Whether you visit one of the many restaurants or tavernas, shop for your own ingredients in the markets, or visit a traditional farm, Mykonos has something for you. You can also have the chance to take a traditional cooking class, if you desire. Just remember that no matter what you decide to do, it isn’t really the recipes themselves that matter. It’s the philosophy. Greek cooking is all about fresh ingredients and what’s available locally. As long as it’s fresh, it’s considered excellent Greek food!

Chances are pretty good that while you are on Mykonos, you won’t ignore the clubs all together. However, that’s not all the island has to offer! It’s a beautiful place filled with rich cultural experiences. You just need to go out and find them.
