Fourni is a group of islands, a miniature archipelago. There are many coves hosting colorful boats, emerald waters, old windmills, gorgeous beaches, villages, and even deserted islands. It’s no surprise there is a variety of things to do when visiting Fourni, Greece. The islands of Fourni include some uninhabited islands and the inhabited islands of Fourni and Thymaina.

Here’s some of what you can expect to do while in Fourni, Greece.

Explore an Archaeological Site

Fourni is home to a number of archaeological sites. The Acropolis of Fourni is located in Agios Georgios on the hill. Excavations would uncover remains of the cyclopean walls. Parts of these walls remain today. The ancient quarry of Petrokopio is another site you might enjoy. Excavations here revealed an ancient quarry and the coastline of the area is covered with the gravel and bigger chunks of marble. The Tower of Agia Triada is located on the settlement of Chrismilia. On the north side of Agia Triada there are remnants of a sanctuary thought to be dedicated to the god Poseidon.

Go For a Hike

Fourni has many old that trails the cross the island. If you enjoy hiking and being in nature, you’re going to love the island of Fourni. The trails, until recently, have not been mapped. Now there are a couple that are mapped. One of these routes is called the Maneta Pirate Pathway. As you might guess, the area has quite a history. This hike takes about 40 minutes and will take you to a beach! Whether you enjoy a marked trail or exploring on your own, you’ll find it in Fourni.

Enjoy Food and Drink

You’re not going to be disappointed when you go on the hunt for food and drink in Fourni. After an active day of exploring the sites of the island, you might be ready for a cocktail or other drink. There are beach bars and pubs. If you’re looking for a meal, there are restaurants, tavernas, and cafes, many of which have vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. And you won’t want to leave without trying some of the local seafood. Coffee lovers are also in luck. There are a number of places to grab a coffee as you wander the island.

Take a Boat Trip to the Island of Thymaina

Across from Fourni there is an island called Thymaina. Thymaina is a lovely island with a tranquil atmosphere. There is a marked hiking path on the island which takes you to the highest point for an amazing view. If you’d rather relax, you can do so on Keramidou Beach. Enjoy a meal at one of the local seaside taverns. One of the attractions you might want to stop at is the Chapel of Agios Dimitrios. The area of the chapel offers amazing panoramic views. If you want to take a boat trip from Fouri to Thymaina, the excursion boats operate from the Fourni harbour.

The island of Fourni is a beautiful and relaxing place with a touch of history, nature, and delicious food choices.
