The beautiful country of Greece has a number of spectacular sites to see. Each year, visitors from all around the globe come to explore the breathtaking views, museums, nature, shopping villages, and foods. If you are a nature lover, the Zelios Botanical Gardens is an amazing place to visit. Located about 30 minutes from Nafpaktos, this massive garden houses over 3,500 plants, herbs, and flowers.

The massive garden was opened to the public in 2019. It has been a thriving and popular part of the city’s sightseeing venues ever since. You don’t have to be a nature lover to appreciate the natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere.

What To See

Once you enter the gates of the estate, it’s like walking into a garden wonderland. The beautiful seasonal plants, herbs, flowers, and shrubs continuously grow among a peaceful environment with plenty of wildlife. The aromatic gardens are filled with many known species along with others that are quite rare. The six themed gardens are nestled within olive groves, statues, paved walkways, and picturesque landscape. Visitors will find a glass recycling tower constructed of 12,500 bottles in the center of the park.

Other notable areas include the natural flora habitat, a bamboo forest, a large pond filled with turtles, and a colorful rose garden. If you get hungry, there are a few places where you can get food. You can also stop and rest at one of the many benches found along the pathways. The park’s Environmental Awareness Center was established to protect endangered species and to raise environmental awareness.

Special Events

Park goes can take advantage of many special events that go on throughout the season. Pottery and ceramic art classes introduces students to one of the world’s most ancient arts. Adults and children are guided by experienced potters to create hand-crafted clay pieces via fire and the wheel. The aluminum laboratory guides participants through the process of foundry work. There is also a plant laboratory that allows participants to interact with nature. The specially-designed classes and workshops are available year round. The garden also serves as a research facility for agricultural students from the University of Athens and NKUA.

Visiting the Gardens

The botanical gardens are open year round from Monday through Sunday. Visitors should contact the center to find out the specific daily operational times. Tickets can be pre-purchased though the garden website. Visitors will be astounded by all of the passion and purpose that goes into the gardens. The wonderous greenery mixed with plant aromas are what make this place one of the more unforgettable sites on the trip.

If you are visiting the Nafpaktos area of Greece, the Botanical Garden Zelius is a must see. The picturesque landscape, plants, vineyards, and wildlife is nothing short of mesmerizing. The gardens are filled with charm and a certain amount of tranquility that nature lovers can really appreciate. If you want to explore even more history, the 11th century Daphni Cathedral Monastery is an impressive site adjacent to the garden grounds.
