Jam is a popular staple on any Greek table. Variations of this recipe can be found throughout Greece and is made when quince are in season.

Greek Style Quince Jam (Marmalatha Kythoni) Recipe Ingredients:

  • 4 pounds fresh quince fruit, peeled, cored, and seeds removed
  • Cold water (for quince pieces)
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

How to Make Quince Jam:

Cut the quince into small chunks after you peel it and place in a bowl of cold water.

When ready to make the jam, strain the quince into a colander and add them to a saucepan. Add the water, granulated sugar, and lemon juice.

Set the heat to medium and cook the mixture until the sugar is dissolved. Stir the mixture constantly while the sugar dissolves.

Once the mixture comes to a boil, set the heat to a simmer. Keep cooking it until the mixture thickens and the quince has cooked down.

Pour the jam into sterilized jars and store in the refrigerator. They’ll keep for about a week.
