Recipe for Gyros With Olives and Hot Peppers

Written by in , , Comments Off on Recipe for Gyros With Olives and Hot Peppers

It really isn’t traditional to put hot peppers in a gyro, but this variation does often show up in restaurants, particular in the United States. Consider giving this a try at home!

Gyros With Olives and Hot Peppers Recipe Ingredients:

  • 4 Greek pita bread rounds
  • 1 recipe Greek tzatziki
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 medium tomatoes, diced
  • 4 hot, jarred peppers, drained and sliced in rounds (more if you want it extra hot)
  • Greek olives, such as Kalamata
  • Crumbled feta cheese
  • Slices of Gyro meat (eyeball it, but about 4-8 slices per sandwich depending on the size of the pita)
  • Dried Greek Oregano

How to Prepare Gyros With Olives and Hot Peppers:

Prepare the pita bread and tzatziki according to the recipe instructions unless you decide to use store bought pita bread and tzatziki.

Place a piece of aluminum foil down on a flat surface. Place a round of pita bread over the foil. Spread tzatziki across the middle of the pita bread. Top with onion, tomato, some of the peppers, some olives, feta cheese and then add the gyro meat. Drop more tzatziki over the top, if desired. Sprinkle some oregano over all the ingredients.

Roll the gyro sandwich and wrap it in aluminum foil so it can hold the shape.
