Rice and seafood is a classic pairing in Greece and this dish is served all over the country. Recipes and ingredients may change depending on the region of Greece, the individual who is making the dish, and the seafood that’s available.

Greek Style Seafood With Rice (Rizi me Thalassina) Recipe Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Greek olive oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 bell peppers, any color, chopped
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 cups stock (fish stock, vegetable stock, chicken stock, etc)
  • 2 cups arborio
  • 2 tablespoons dry white wine
  • 1/2 sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup cooked, shelled mussels
  • 2 cups uncooked small shrimp
  • 3 tablespoons chopped, fresh parsley

Instructions to Make Greek Rice With Seafood:

Pour the olive oil into to a large saucepan and heat over medium. Add the onion and saute for five minutes or until the onions become translucent. Add the peppers and saute for another 2-3 minutes, or until they become soft. Add the water and fish stock and cover the pan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, add the rice, wine, sea salt, black pepper, mussels and shrimp. Cover the pan, and simmer the mixture over low heat until all the water is absorbed. Stir in the fresh parsley just before serving.
