The beaches of Kefalonia are perfect for relaxing and soaking up the sun. One beach you will want to visit is Ammes Beach. Here’s what you should know about Ammes Beach on Kefalonia.

About Ammes Beach on Kefalonia

Ammes Beach is located 10 km southwest of Argostoli, the capital city of the island of Kefalonia. The population of Argostoli is about 10,000 people. Ammes Beach is also close to Svoronta Village. The beach has soft sand and clean waters that are ideal for swimming in. There are rock formations that rise out of the sea adding to the magnificence of Ammes Beach. Greenery surrounds the beach adding to the beauty of the landscape.

Ammes Beach on Kefalonia is neighbor to an airport runway. If you enjoy watching planes, this will be a unique beach experience for you. Luckily, there aren’t more than a couple of planes going by each hour.

The beach has sun beds and umbrellas for rent and there is a snack bar on site, so you won’t have to go far for refreshments. There are also tavernas nearby thanks to Ammes Beach being so close to Argostoli.

Visit Ammes Beach on Kefalonia

At Ammes Beach on Kefalonia you can spend hours lounging in the sun reading a good book. Take a break to cool off and swim in the water before heading to the snack bar for a snack or to a nearby taverna for a bigger meal. There is a bus stop near the beach, that can take you to Argostoli. It is possible to go snorkeling at Ammes Beach, but you might not see anything too exciting.

The city of Argostoli is home to tavernas, cafes, shops, and a harbor that is active. The harbor is a tourist attraction, so you won’t want to leave without spending some time there. There is a lagoon nearby called Koutavos where caretta-caretta turtles feed. Sometimes the local fishermen will toss unwanted catch into the sea that the turtles will also eat. A sure sign that the turtles are around is the crowd of people at the dock watching. There is a large square in the center of Argostoli. It is actually two squares where a hotel, pizza restaurants, and bars are located.

To get to Ammes Beach, you must first get to Kefalonia, which can be done by plane or ferry. The airport of Kefalonia is located in Svoronata, close to Ammes Beach, so getting there won’t be too difficult. Once on Kefalonia, you can take the bus, rent a car, or take a taxi. Once you arrive at the beach, you will find that it offers a worthwhile way to spend your day!
