However, they did leave certain things for us to explore. The archeological Museum of Sitia has an impressive collection of Minoean era artifacts.

These sartifacts go all the way back to the Bronze Age (c. 2700 – c. 1100 BC). Many of the structures involve large, vase-like vessels. You may also see some art and the tools used to help this ancient civilization survive. The museum is small, but it’s completely rich in culture and pre-historic history.

Folklore Museum of Sitia

To understand history, you need to understand how the every day people lived. Most history focuses on the kings and queens. The Folklore Museum of Sitia makes a point to emphasize the lives of the commoners.
You will see examples of clothes, furniture, tools, cloth, and musical instruments. The people worked hard to put a roof over their heads and clothes on their backs. Unlike today where people just go to the store, most people made these items themselves. Of course, they needed a way to let loose after all of the hard work. That’s where the musical instruments come in.

Erimoupolis Beach

One of the things Greece is best known for are the beautiful and powerful beaches. The Erimoupolis Beach is only a short drive away from Sitia. The water is a crystal blue that you only see in movies. The beaches are rocky, but this only adds to the beauty. This is a great place for the whole family. Luckily, it’s far enough out of the way where it usually isn’t too busy. You can even see an ancient ruin nearby. There is also a palm forest in the area that you can visit as well.
