Amoudara Beach is located in the Gulf of Heraklion on the northern coast of the area. It is a long beach that starts at River Giofyros, which is west of Heraklion center and reaches river Almyros. It has crystal-clear waters and soft golden sand. Attributed to its fine organization and clean waters, the beach has been awarded the EU Blue Flag for its cleanliness. There are many taverns as well as an array of accommodations in the area.

This area is a well known as a suburb of Heraklion and attracts thousands of visitors each year. This mainly results from its long sandy beach that has brownish, fine sand. What to Do at Amoudara Beach

There are options at Amoudara to suit everyone’s preferences; from those who like staying secluded to those who like crowded places. There are organized beaches along the coast with umbrellas, sunbeds, lifeguards, beach bars, showers, water sports, changing rooms and so much more. For windsurfers, Amoudara is the perfect place to be because of the intense winds that are there throughout the year.

If you seek cool and quiet places, the west part of the Amoudara Beach is ideal. It starts from the Pancretan Stadium front and ends at east near the dunes and wetland of Xeropotamos. The industrial area of Ellinoperamata as well as the mouths of river Gazanos and river Almiros represent other quiet areas where you can have fun.

The surrounding area of Amoudara Beach is also fun to visit, and you can also visit the spring of Almyros River. It forms the largest habitat that offers the greatest amount of water in Crete. Just nearby, there’s also the gorge of Almiros. This is quite easy to walk on, and you could walk to the top of Stroumboulas Mountain, which is a volcano-like mount at Heraklion.

Right on the Amoudara Beach within Heraklion City, there is the family owned Tropical Hotel that features a beach bar and traditional restaurant. While here, you can view the mountains and the Cretan Sea. You’ll also be served with Greek specialties. Free Wi-Fi is also available throughout.

Getting to Amoudara Beach

There are several ways you can get to Ammoudara Beach. First, there is a local bus that you can take across the road from the airport on Leoforos Ikarou. You just need to take the bus labeled “No.6 Bus Airport – Amoudara”. It will take you to Amoudara Beach. It is close to the Hotel Georgia, which is located at 10 Vargias St, Amoudara and is right at the beach. It is also quite close to where the bus travels, Andrea Papandreou Avenue. The stop is well-referred to as “Andrea Papandreou 87.” There are also several other buses that you can take to the area.

Another option is that you can always take a taxi. There are several choices and you can take a taxi from anywhere in Heraklion, including the airport or even downtown Heraklion. You can also walk to the beach from certain locations from the airport to Amoudara Beach.
