Koufonisia, Greece is made up of two small islands that each offer charm, beauty, history, and tranquility. If you are looking for a destination that has much to offer in the way of outdoor activities, traditional architecture, and of course good food, Koufonisia is the place for you. Visit the Capital of Koufonisia

The capital of the island of Koufonisia is the settlement of Hora. Hora is located on the south side of the island. Hora is a great example of the Cyclades traditional architecture. You can admire the whitewashed houses with their blue windows. Also take in the wonderful stone windmills, flowery courtyards, and labyrinth alleys.

The capital of Koufonisia is found on the slope of a hill and because it is the only settlement on the island, it is densely populated. The settlement is divided in two by the port. If you enjoy nightlife, there are a few bars that play music after the sun sets. You will find Hora a romantic place to visit if you’re traveling with your partner.

Spend Time at the Beach

The beaches of Koufonisia Island are beautiful and the ideal spots to soak up the sun and swim. If you enjoy water sports such as windsurfing, Pori Beach is the perfect destination for you. The winds blow consistently at this beach. Pori Beach is in the shape of a half moon and features light sand and clear blue, shallow water.

The beach is also nudist friendly. Ammos Beach is found at the main harbor of the island and one of the cleanest beaches in the Cyclades. The turquoise waters and golden sand beach will tempt you to stay all afternoon. Other beaches of Koufonisia Island include: Detis Beach, Fanos Beach, Nero Beach, and Lakki Beach. Lakki Beach is accessible only by boat, but the gorgeous waters and rocky formations near the old settlement of Panagia make it worth the trip.

Take a Boat Trip

The island of Koufonisia is a wonderful starting point for a boat trip. If you love being out on the water and exploring surrounding areas, Koufonisia is the perfect destination. You can take a boat trip to the island of Schinoussa. The waters around Schinoussa are a deep blue color and the horizon seems endless.

Schinoussa is a small island, but worth visiting if you’re looking for a tranquil side-trip to your vacation. You can also take a boat trip to the island of Heraklia, a lovely island of the small Cyclades. Heraklia is home to whitewashed houses, chapels, and shipwrecks. You will have plenty to explore if you pick this island to visit. A boat trip is the perfect activity for lovers of natural beauty who visit the island of Koufonisia.
