What to See While in Poros
Comments Off on What to See While in Poros
Poros is actually made up of two islands in the Peloponnese – Sphairia and Kalaureia. Although it’s not as bustling as some of the bigger islands during peak tourist season, there is still a lively crowd that visits fairly regularly. For those who would love to avoid the rush of tourists, it’s best to avoid visiting Poros during this time.
In a lot of ways, Poros offers a fairly typical Greek island escape. There are some lovely beaches, good tavernas, and a fairly hopping nightlife, especially in the summer. However, there’s so much more to the island than that! While visiting, you have a chance to see what it’s like to live in such a close-knit community – as long as you venture off the beaten path a bit. Like many Greek islands, locals tend to eat only what the land can produce, and it’s interesting to experience this more traditional side of the culture.
Aside from that, there are plenty of other things to do. Here’s an overview of how you can spend your time while here:
Go on a Boating Adventure
Do you love to be on the water? One of the best things to do here is charter a sailboat or a yacht and explores the area by sea. If you happen to love sailing, you can easily do so here. Otherwise, you can charter not only the boat, but also the whole crew. Look for a chartering company that has a great reputation and excellent reviews. Ask at your hotel for advice on where to go.
Visit a Top Beach
There are beaches all over Poros, and some are better than others. If you only have a limited time here, focus your efforts on only the best beaches. Love Bay, or Limanaki Beach, is considered one of the best places in Poros. Other top beaches include Askeli Beach, Poros Beach, Megalo Neaori, and Mikro Neorio beaches. Each of these are beautiful and will deliver a relaxing experience for the whole family.
Go to an Open Air Cinema
Are you looking for a unique thing to do while on Poros? The Cinema Diana is something different that will please the whole family! Open-air theaters were a big part of the culture of Ancient Greece. Today, this experience still exists in the form of open-air theaters that show modern films. To many, the film that’s being shown doesn’t even matter. Simply being there and watching the movie in such a traditional environment is enough to make this a memorable occasion.
Visit a Traditional Workshop
While you’re out shopping, it’s worth your while to stop by the Ergani Workshop. This shop is set off the beaten track a bit, but it’s well worth the effort to track it down. Here, you can see traditional weavers in action. They work most of the time while the shop is open, but if you happen to catch them on an off day, there are still plenty of unique items to browse in their shop.
Poros is an island that has some unique treasures. Be sure to visit some of them to give your trip that unique flair you’ve been craving!
